Vista Start Button

when i upgraded to SP2 my start button stopped responding to my mouse click. i tried goin back to SP1 but it still didnt work? when i try to right-click on the start orb it comes up but with three black rows at the bottom of the right-click menu? i had to download that "Vista Start Menu" just to use it again but i'd rather have the normal start menu. any help please

Hello Emanz,

You might see if doing a System Restore using a restore point dated before you installed the SP2 may be able to fix this for you.

Hi Brink. Yes i have already tried that and it still didn't work? i mean, the vista start menu program is ok but i'd rather use the original vista start menu because i don't trust the downloaded vista start menu program. any other ways i can fix this problem?

As a test, create a new administrator account to see if it works ok in it. If it does, then you can copy any files in your old user account's C:\Users\(user-name) folders into the new account's corresponding user folders.

I tried that test but it did not work...is there any file I can download and replace on my computer for the start button to get it working again? and my win32k.sys or some file like that keeps giving me bsod!!

Well, you can try running a sfc /scannow command to see if it may help. If not, then you may need to do a clean or custom reinstall of Vista to fix it.
