Vista won't startup... Please help

Here's the error I'm getting when trying to do a system repair on my acer 6930:

I saw that message about the missing os loader so I grabbed my father in laws XP PRO cd (which i just realized won't freaking work) and tried to install that.... Got the blue screen of death. I tried changing my hd setting in the bios from AHCI to IDE still no success. The BSOD error message was this:

STOP: 0x0000007B (0XF78D22524, 0XC0000034, 0X00000000, 0X00000000)

That's all I've tried so far... Please help me out. Thanks

I'm running Vista not XP, will this guide still apply? Also, I ONLY received that message when trying to reinstall the operating system, which I realized after posting here that I was using the WRONG version of windows. I am, in fact, running Vista NOT XP. When starting the computer it automatically goes straight to the system restore deal.

How did you get Vista? Clean install? To avoid problems, you should always do a clean install. How long ago did you install Vista?

Have you tried F8 on bootup, and last known good configuration.

The boot config is missing messed up. You have severe corruption of Vista.
Boot into the Vista disk (or recovery partition), and Repair. Select repair startup (may have to do this twice).

/ScanOs

The /ScanOs option scans all disks for installations that are compatible with Windows Vista. Additionally, this option displays the entries that are currently not in the BCD store. Use this option when there are Windows Vista installations that the Boot Manager menu does not list.
/RebuildBcd

The /RebuildBcd option scans all disks for installations that are compatible with Windows Vista. Additionally, this option lets you select the installations that you want to add to the BCD store. Use this option when you must completely rebuild the BCD.
