Solved Vista32b will not boot to normal...

Friends Toshiba a205-s5000 satellite laptop w 32bit Vista
Will boot fine into safe mode/sm w networking..
Normal boot just sits at loading screen..

Have tried:
Disabling all startup apps and services -same
System restore as far back as it will go - completed, but the same
Recovery functions from boot menu - complete, but the same
Last known good config - same
Disable Driver Signature Enforcement - same
Enable low resolution video - same

Biggest problem is no Toshiba/MS restore CD/DVD available.
I do have a clean copy of XP I could try.
I have no problem formatting and starting over w XP, but it just seems like if it will boot to safe mode, it should be fixable ... software/drivers being the issue.

Hello Jmcklane, and welcome to Vista Forums.

If your friend still has the recovery partition, then you can do a factory restore to have Vista reinstalled like it was out of the box. You can also use the link below to create a set of OEM Vista recovery discs.

Thank you for the reply.

There was one missing piece of info I ended up getting 5 hours into the troubleshooting. The owner's 3 year old had jabbed a toothpick into one of the memory card reader slots.
Disabled said slot in device manager. PC boots just fine.

Must remember to question a bit more next time.
