Windows Defender Update Not Sticking

RellikZephyr

New Member
i have updated my windows defender several times (the same update)

the update is ...

KB915597 (Def. 1.23.4310.0)

as i said the update installs and everything seems fine until about a week later when the same update is found and installed

and so the vicious circle begins again

anyone had this problem?? or know of a fix??

Thanks

Hi RellikZephyr,

The definition updates for Windows Defender will always have the same KB915597 name. The Def version should be the one that changes each time.

If it is the same (Def. 1.23.4310.0) version over and over, then you might try installing it manually. See: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/923159

Just select the x64 (70632) download link.

pretty sure Def is same as well but...

will do a double check on next update, then if same will do manual update

think after manual update, the auto will work ok again??

Thanks

RellikZephyr,

You can see all the Windows Updates installed on your computer by clicking on the blue "View update history" link in Windows Update. The Def's will be there to see what version they are.

It should work fine after the manual update (if needed) when the new one comes down next time.

Thanks and checked that it shows all old defs up to current one... so it has been updating

but the current one is the one that doesnt stick (i believe)

plus theres a bit of a gap from the last update to current one (11 days) when i think the update was detected and installed about 2-4 days apart (3 times now) last just the other day when i started topic

looks like ill just have to wait for next update to be sure

see what happens

RellikZephyr,

That is great news. :D

It means that something probably just interfered with the other update installation process. Thank you for the feedback.
