Windows Explorer

I am working on laptop which has Vista Home Premium, 32 bit.

I have just restored the laptop to factory conditions and installed all the updates.

When I open Windows Explorer, it opens at the Start Menu which is fine, but I think every folder in explorer is expanded.

What I would like to do is have explorer open and NO folders be expanded. This would make it much easier to navigate in explorer.

Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

I recommend you check out the following tutorial which specifically addresses navigation pane tree lines: http://www.vistax64.com/tutorials/131093-navigation-pane-simple-folder-view.html. I'm not sure this will solve what you want 100%, but it should get you much closer and i believe it is as far as Vista permits us to control that feature.

Type windows explorer in search
then go there
See the folders on the left panel
You can make them all show or just the lead ones
If all show that is expanded

Thanks Lorien for that info but I saw nothing that helped to do what I want.

richc46 "expanded" means you can see all the folders or files inside a folder. Below is an what it would look like in explorer.

This question is so easy it has become difficult. I had several answers and even posted one, but then changed my mind. I think that I have found the correct answer
In search type
folder options
At the bottom of the options there are tick boxes for navigation, I think this will help you. Untick the box show all folders.
