Hi, i am using windows live mail,i am getting this error message,i checked the web but in tools/accounts/properties,there is no check box for this server requires authentication?can anyone please help me thanks

The rejected e-mail address was '[email protected]'. Here is what this error means:

0x800CCC78

IXP_E_SMTP_REJECTED_SENDER

Unknown sender (This error occurs because you have the incorrect e-mail address in the Reply-To field)

Do you think this is just a typo or a bigger error?

i don't understand? i am sending to right email address. no typo.it says send to not reply to.

That was the simple solution. There are a few more reasons why this problem can occur and I will come back on this shortly. Please also be aware that the error message is not the only piece of information. The Server Error (530) also makes a difference so people with Server Error 550 have a different problem to you. Is this for all messages, just this one, just this email etc.?

hi richard, well i usually use firefox and i have gmail as my default email, but i also use internet explorer 8, i have windows live mail setup,but its not set as the default email program?,wether that makes any difference??.if i open up windows live mail program,it runs fine,no problems...and yes its the same if i send to different email addresses.thanks for your time,i appreciate it,i do hope you can please help me with this.

Hello,

I do not know exactly how to access this, but it does exist somewhere as I get offered this option when I had to set up a new email account with Windows Live Mail. It is probably under some account settings somewhere.

Make sure that the following option is checked:

"This server requires a secure connection (SSL)"

Try this (not written by me):

Do NOT select the "Log on using Secure Password Authentication
(SPA) check box".

Under Outgoing Mail Server, check the box marked "My server
requires authentication".

Under Settings, select "Use same settings as my incoming mail
server".

Click on the Advanced tab.

The server port numbers should be 25 for Outgoing mail (SMTP) and
995 for Incoming mail (POP3).

Under both Outgoing mail (SMTP) and Incoming mail (POP3), select
the "This server requires a secure connection (SSL)" check boxes.

If you still cannot send emails with these settings, try changing
the port number for Outgoing Mail to 587 (instead of Port 25).

Note that some of this may not exactly apply and that you should note down your old settings.

You should not have to set it up again, just find the account settings. Once there, all you are looking to do is check the "This server requires a secure connection (SSL)" option.
