windows mail won't delete

i don't use windows mail. why can't i delet the files in the programs folder?

Windows Mail is an integral part of the Vista operating system and not deletable. You can use any mail software you wish so just leave Windows Mail inactive in the background.
If you try to delete system files you will eventually end up with major problems, possibly even an unbootable system.

Note that using method one requires group policy editor which is not available on the "home" editions of XP or higher. The only other way to disable it would be methods two or three which are registry hacks. Please be sure to back up your registry first and create a restore point and perform those steps at your own risk. Really although it can't be removed it isn't hurting anything by just sitting there is it? Now I don't know if windows mail is integral to OS functionality but it is integrated and therefore can't be removed without severe risk to the OS.

For XP I assume you mean Vista. Methods 2 and 3 will work for all Vista versions. If you mess with WM in some way Calendar and Windows Contacts may also stop working or malfunction. In turn Task Manager relies on Calendar to a certain extent. So I would leave WM alone if I were the OP just in case a cascade effect of failures is caused or at best errors.
