Windows Vista Upgrade?

Hey Guys,

At the moment I am running windows XP media center edition 32 bit on my desktop, and I recently bought the vista home premium edition dvd...

BUT...

Not being a very techie person, I didn't realize it was a clean installation version of vista, anyway it wouldn't let me install it as I later found my current pc allows upgrade to vista home premium edition, so having said all of that, am I right in saying I need to get hold of the 32 bit upgrade version of vista home premium edition instead or could there be some other problem that I don't understand?

I've added a screenshot of what flagged up on my screen when I tried to boot vista home premium edition from the dvd...

Just read your post again, LOL. You clearly said that you have the full version. Follow Toms advice. No need to spend additional money.

Good that you did not notice. I was trying my best not to let the facts confuse the issues. Glad that you gave support.
Ed the full version and the upgrade version will give the same full quality experience. With XP, however, you must format to go to Vista. The only way to format is to boot from the DVD.
Boot Priority - Change

Hey Guys,

Major problem, I followed installation to the letter right up to no product key entry etc...

however when it got to the step 2 phase of doing it all again in vista, I couldn't go through the process because it went straight to the set up sequence you know name password timezone etc.....

with no way to bypass it, so I just carried on with that step, and hey presto everything seemed to work, I had vista up and running....happy days, but I noticed that I had to keep rebooting for no less than 96 updates...

during the last few I decided to download AVG free edtion had it on XP, anyway, left it all alone for a few hours, only to return to find the screen blank and pc off and now I can't even get a start up screen on boot...absolutely zero, its like there is no OS or anything at all...

What can I do now, dire straits?

Is it just not booting Windows? Or is there nothing at all? i.e. no flashing lights, no BIOS screen etc.

Hey guys there is absolutely nothing, just the power to the harddrive, all I know is I didn't realise after the last set of 80 updates believe or not some more was waiting in the wings, at that time I started to download the 2011 free version of AVG antivirus...

I left it to its own devices, and like I said a few hours later came back to it only to find it like this?

Like I said though I coulddn't actually carry out phase 2 from the instructional report you gave the link to because after setting the bios then booting from the disc and all the restarts it went straight to the set-up window without any means of bypassing it to contiunue with phase 2...

OH and by the way, in the bios windows there was no option to set in the third setting to HDD-0 at all so I just carried on, but I thought it turned out OK because I installed vista and even set it all up name pic password etc...

Thats all I can tell you, and likje I said not even the bio boot started, and no boot up noise, just the sound of the fan on the harddrive!

I'm wondering if I've damaged the motherboard because the bios won't boot?

What do you think Guys....Ed.:sarc:
