Solved wireless router?

Hello, I have a desktop PC with high speed cable internet, it works perfect.. my mom wants a laptop, but she wants it wireless, I bought a wireless router linksys, now how do I program the laptop to get internet? I can't seem to do this,.. also I don't know what kind of internet network im under wpa, wpa2 I don't know all i know is that it's high speed..iplease help me get therouter programmed please?

Hello, i have just now reset my router up and set its security, and came online and i see your post. My router came with a set up dvd which has a set up guide that basically does it for you , all you have to do is connect your pc to the router, and the router to your modem that you have to get your wired internet, in my case, i use comcast and have a cable type connection.
Best thing is to get the manual for your router from the site and check it out , it will give you step by step on how to set it up manually if you did not get a dvd to do it auto for you.
Post back results or post if you need more assistance please.

I would set it for WPA2, that is what i have mine set up for, requires a password for anyone to access it. Good luck with this. Post back your results please.

ok now how would my mothers laptop get the wireless internet if my pc is connected, I think I have LAN I have cable high speen roadrunner turbo, now would the wpa2 have to be on both pc's? if so how do i configure this if my pc have lan??.

Once you have hers configured by using the set up dvd that came with the router, or you have read your manual and have done it manually, You set up the the router using its interface, for example , mine is 192.168.2.1 to access.

Wow, does no one here know how to setup a modem->router ?

Okay., 1)Shut down your desktop and unplug the modem power cable.
2)Then unplug the network cable from your computer. Plug that cable into the WLAN port on the router.
3)Take another cable and plug it into the LAN port 1-4. The other end plugs back into the computer.
4)Plug the modem power back in. Plug the router power in, then power on the computer.

This should get your desktop setup.

Tro get thge laptop up.

1) On your desktop, goto 192.168.1.1 and enter the default pass/user Usually admin/admin
2)Find the wireless security and set an SSID, its the name of your network. I'd set it to be unique but annonomous to you. Set the security to WPA2 and set up apasskey. Hit save/set or applky
3)On the laptop, open the wireless connecter, btm right by the clock should have it shown, find your network. You named it above. Click it, enter the passkey.

Well, other than your link... which has the info, it seems by the op post/questions, he didn't/doesnt have the router and moden connected together. Which tends to show his skill level is entry. So your link might get over looked, or over his tech level.

Though your link is pretty easy to understand..

With no progess being made, it begged the question... This forum is very OS orientated and so hardware isn't dealt with well, which is the opposite of many forums.
