X1550 driver problem

Hey,
I have had trouble with my comp for a while now. Turned out to be a knackered monitor. I took my PC to a shop thinking it was that and when I got it back I had a weird problem. I have an Ati Sapphire X1550, it will boot up with the standard VGA drivers, but if I install any kind of driver for it, when I reboot, I get a Blue Screen saying Machine check Exception. No trouble with VGA drivers, but Blue screen with new and old drivers.
Any idea's what's wrong, untill I get running on my graphics card, I can't install my new Samsung monitor.

does appear to be a driver problem, i assume you mean the standard vga drivers that just get the lowest resolution on the screen and your trying to install the latest drivers from AMD's site?seems quite strange why it wont let you install the gfx card, Radical thought but maybe its nothing to do with your monitor or graphics whatsoever, it may be an issue with your RAM, my computer used to bluescreen when one of my 8 Memory modules failed. never crashed before i installed my graphics card, seems like a wierd problem, i can only suggest you test your RAM and see if the problem persists.

The thing is, it does boot up in safe mode no probs and will boot up into vista but only if I use the standard Microsoft Graphics drivers. If I install the drivers for the graphics card when I have it running in standard mode (won't let me install in safe mode) I have to reboot to finish installation, this is when in standard mode it gives me blue screen. But with the Graphics card drivers installed, I can boot into safe mode.
When the drivers are installed and I start up windows, it comes up with the usuall loading screen, that stops then I get screen, so it must only be when the drivers are kicking in that it's finding the fault.
I have an Nvidia 9500 GT card spare, I'll see if that works. If not, I may have to back up in safe mode then reformat.
I don't want to do that tho as I have an OEM, I'll have to call India and explain to them what I'm doing. Joy

lmao, thats good, but before you do that, try one last thing, uninstall your graphics card from the device manager, and reinstall. if that doesnt work, then im afraid india is calling, or you are calliing india

Done that a couple of times. I am gonna change my graphics card first, see if I can get my comp to flow with my 9500 GT. If that one doesn't work then it's time to cook my ear calling India. OOOHHH!!! I can't wait.

Umm, you *do* know that

1) Safe mode does *not* load your installed Graphics driver, and

2) *I* am from India....

(just had to throw that last one in there as you shouldn't be complaining about *where8 you're calling to but *why* - because the company that built your machine decided to leave America and move its call operations there - so complain that you have a machine from that OEM and not where you are calling to).

i think hes just getting sick of talking to someone who cant understand a word hes saying, it seems kind of pointless with having call operations in a country whos native tongue isnt that of the majority of people who would complain. I used to work in a call centre, i know the script and it used to annoy me when people from poland rang up and they cant understand a word i was saying, but they lived in the UK, so i know the story from both sides effectively, but i do agree with what you are saying and india bashing isnt necessary, but whenever i have spoken to microsoft, the agents were asian and spoke clear english.

Calm down peeps, I built this system a couple of years ago. I got an OEM cos I qualified for it. I wasn't looking forward to calling India because when I first installed it, I had to speak to 3 different operaters before I got anywhere.

Back to what the problem was, I solved it, used the recovery console on my Vista DVD. The computer shop I took my PC to removed system files. I went back yesterday and gave him a round of f's. Got my money back as well.

I wasn't upset or anything like that - just trying to make you see reality.

They are there doing their jobs just like anyone else - if you have a problem with the accents (which, seeing as my folks speak pretty much the same, I obviously don't) then direct your ire and bashing toward the *company* and not the *country*.

I cannot tell you how many people have made fun of having to call India or making fake Indian accents - and whether you like it or not, it's is demeaning to any real Indian person, and it is borderline racism. It is not their fault that they speak the way they do - they were taught to speak like that since childhood. It *is*, however, your company's fault for moving operations over there without having a strong linguistics program in place to make the call center more efficient.

Knowing the frustrations of having to call over there and deal with some of the more linguistically challenged folks over there, I still say bashing the country is neither right nor respectful.

Anyhoo, glad you got it working.
