Cannot install x64 SP2--Get BSOD on reboot

I cannot install Vista SP2 on my Home Premium x64 system. I disabled my antivirus and spyware software. I started installing and got to step 3 of the installation. When it rebooted, I get the Blue Screen of Death (BSOD). I have uninstalled the antivirus and spyware software and get the same result when I try to update Vista to SP2. I have tried using the Windows Update version as well as the stand alone downloaded updater. Same result. I have even tried doing a selective startup with "load startup items" unchecked and ALL non-MSFT services disabled. Same result. I have consulted the list of offending programs and do not believe I have any that don't live happily with SP2. I am now totally at a loss and welcome new ideas. BTW, I have tried to boot up after the BSOD to see if the computer would work, but I get the BSOD again, so the problem is truely fatal. Fortunately Startup repair has always brought me back to an operable state once again. Please help! Thank you in advance!

Since posting the above, I have run software to fix registry errors and attempted to install SP2 again. Still get the BSOD. Here is the error message I get if someone can please tell me how to correct this problem. Thanks.

Re: Cannot install x64 SP2--Get BSOD on reboot-Solved!

Issue solved. I had Googled the file in the error message before, but did not see it was related to MacDrive. Once I uninstalled MacDrive Vista SP2 installed flawlessly. Wow, what am I going to do with the 41GB of HDD space freed up???!!!!! I hope it is more stable and less flaky than before SP2!

Same problem here and I was already suspecting Macdrive to be the culprit.
But wouldn't it be enough to disable Macdrive? I assume it's the driver loaded at startup which causes the problem. Did you by any chance re-install Macdrive after you'd installed SP2?

Yes, I found out that I had to completely uninstall MacDrive (not just disable it), install SP2, and then install the newest version of MacDrive. Make sure to go to MediaFour's web site and download the installer for the newest version of MacDrive. Even though I had MacDrive set to check for updates, it wasn't doing so, because the version I was running was about 6 dot releases old. For some reason it wasn't telling me about updates being available. Everything is good now, though. Good luck!

I just tried again. I disabled MacDrive, installed SP2 (no BSOD this time) and then installed the latest MacDrive update. Perhaps you had to uninstall because your version was older than mine? But then again I really think it's a driver issue and that's disabled as soon as you disable MacDrive.
