Hi
For a couple of weeks now Live OneCare has been reminding me I need to install an important update...KB955430. No matter how many times I try, this will not install. I have spent hours looking for suggestions and tried most of them but still it will not install. I have downloaded the Readiness tool, that didn't help either.
I am getting the error code '8007000D' within seconds of clicking on the update button.
I understand the KB955430 is to do with updates and SP2. I am running Vista 64 bit SP1.
I have tried to install the SP2 stand alone from the Windows update page, but that won't install either.
Has anyone got any ideas, Ive obviously got something wrong here but don't know what else to try.
Thanks
Gail

Do you mean to uninstall sp1 then re-install it? Because I would need sp1 in order to eventually put sp2 on?

after uninstall, you would run "windows update" to determine which updates you need

Yes, I would suggest you the following:
1.Uninstall SP1 and re-boot.
2.Stop any third party Anti Virus programs.
3.Install all important updates in Windows Update.
4.Get the standalone download of SP1 from:Download details: Windows Vista Service Pack 1 Five Language Standalone (KB936330)
I found standalone download is trouble free but it's up to you whether you prefer WU or standalone package.
5.Re-boot and find new updates in WU,install all important updates(you may get IE8 update as important but if you do not want it now, you can untick IE8)
6.Get the SP2 download from here:http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/...d5-f907-4406-9012-a5c3199ea2b3&displaylang=en
and install.
7.Re-boot and find new updates and install them.
when you finish remember to activate your Anti virus prog.
Hope this helps to resolve your issues.

Im having a problem because sp1 is not in my program list. I have looked on the microsoft website for instructions on how to un install sp1 from a command prompt (How to uninstall Windows Vista service packs as a troubleshooting step) but thats not working either because it appears that sp1 is not in the temp folder - (C:\temp\Windows6.0-KB936330-X86.exe /x:C:\temp).
I don't know how to find it. I have tried copying the windows6.0.... into search but its not finding it???
I have looked in system restore and although I put a check in 'search more than 5 days', its not going back any further than may this year.
Any advise?

If I look in Update history, the only items in there are the numerous attemps to install KB955430. I frequently run disk cleanup.

I have just been trying to understand a little of the results from the System Update Readiness tool. There are quite a few errors that don't seem to have been fixed in there and one of them is KB936330 (SP1)............

f) CBS Watchlist Component Missing 0x80070002 amd64_microsoft-windows
wmadmod_31bf3856ad364e35_0.0.0.0_none_06477c6e1e7fbeef Package_46_for_KB936330~31bf3856ad364e35~qmd64~~6.0.1.18000 Package registry presence failed, possibly an orphaned package on package watchlist

If I could find how to uninstall this, it may help solve my problem. And maybe I can't find it on my pc because its 'faulty'. Although it does say 'Vista 64 bit, Service Pack 1' in Computer Properties!

click the windows update link in the start menu. click "view update history" from the list on the left-hand side menu. underneath the title "review your update history", there should be a hyperlink (blue text) "installed updates". click that text and see if anything is listed.

if there is nothing there, but windows is reporting that you have sp1, then i may be stumped. where did you get your copy of windows? and did it come with sp1?

When I click the windows update from the start menu, it just opens the same window as above. Im pretty sure SP1 isn't on the Vista disk. I bought Vista seperately as I bought this pc new with no operating system. Ive had them both for almost 2 years now and I re-formatted last year because of some problem I had and I seem to remember the updates taking a long time afterwards, this makes me think that SP1 was one of them.
I was looking at something I hadn't seen before last night......from the basic info window on my pc, I clicked on 'performance' in the bottom left of the window, then on 'advanced tools' top left of that window, then 'view performance details in events log' from the list. I went down the list to Diagnostics performance-operational and theres loads of warnings, errors and critical symbols!! They are all to do with Boot performance monitoring and shutdown performance monitoring!!
I wish I hadn't looked LOL! I don't know if this is really important and maybe I should just stick to the bits I know??
I think maybe I should be thinking about re-formatting again to give it a 'clear out'. But I don't look forward to the idea as it takes so long and installing the drivers (because its 64 bit) always seems to be a pain.
I will more than likely wait till I have a bigger problem (which I daresay I will have eventually) then re-format. (Or save up for Windows 7, couldn't be any worse than 64bit Vista)....what do you say?

if you are definitely moving to windows7, and are willing to put up with the error messages until october/november, then waiting is probably the easiest route. i, on the other hand, wouldnt be able to sleep:D

try downloading the standalone sp1. if it doesnt work, you could request it on cd from microsoft.

It depends on how much Windows 7 is going to cost and that too will more than likely have its teething problems too!
Sounds like we're much the same.......it will keep driving me mad until I sort it one way or another. May not be a problem to most people but Im like a bear with a sore head when things aren't as they should be!
