I desperately need help.
I am failry computer savvy but this has me beat.
Service Pack two kept trying to load and was failing and hijacking my computer with 20 minute shutdown and restarts...ignorantly thinking there must be some kind of bug on my puter that is stopping the upgrade, I manually installed the Service Pack and several things happened.
(Using Vista Home Premuium 32 bit on a 1.5 yr old Dell Inspiron 1525)

1. Upon restart...it wouldnt. I get BIOS screen that ineviatabley stops with the code 0xc0000032

2. Cannot start computer in safe mode

3. Cannot start computer at last configuration

4. In WIN RE will not run a system restore - run for hours without doing anything

5. Have now been stuck on Startup Repair for hours

I searched online and found command prompts to try and revert back - but I think they are for cd starts (of course I do not have the instal cd) as my command prompt does not recognize what Im typing.
(it began with: cd windows\system\32\config
re default default.old....
In trying to make it better I am not sure I didnt make it worse, as when I asked for a scan in command prrompt it said it was in the middle of processing something and needed to reboot. I did a hard shut down, and turned back on with F8 and still nothing.

Could someone provide a command prompt (for an semi-rookie who needs a bit more guidance on back end things) to do the following:
1. Stop the system repair
2. revert to old service pack

I have never been so frustrated in my life...and they said viruses were bad....

I super appreciate any help anyone can give me

(P.S I now personally know 3 people who stupidly installed this pack and same thing happened)

Probably you are talking about this one Server Crashes after SP1 install "Non-DLL file included in KnownDLL list" (Blue Screen) - Server Deployment

This method will not work on Vista/Win 7 because these systems stores previous system registry files in completely different way.

I don't know it is worth to try but.Apart the new system restore Vista/7 create copy registry files from previous session in C:\Windows\System32\Config\RegBack :shock:.

If really desperate...The best way use any linux for example MEPIS https://www.mepis.org/mirrors although Vista DVD or WinRE you can also use but it is uncomfortable.

Boot Linux (or go to WinRE) open folder C:\Windows\System32\config

and rename these files:

BCD-TEMPLATE ->BCD-TEMPLATE.OLD
DEFAULT->DEFAULT.OLD
SAM ->SAM.OLD
SECURITY ->SECURITY.OLD
SOFTWARE ->SOFTWARE.OLD
SYSTEM ->SYSTEM.OLD

(don't change COMPONENTS file because system don't store any copy of this file,BCD-Template system will reconstruct automatically when you boot into WinRE)

Next navigate to C:\Windows\System32\config\RegBack folder and copy all items to C:\Windows\System32\config

Next boot into WinRE and try again restore system to previous checkpoint.

Good luck because you really need it!
