.gateway t-1616 vista update errors.

ive read every thread out there i think and nothing i have tried will not install updates.Its a new install from factory cd.more like 3rd install.ive checked hard drive removed all unecessary files programs .turned of UAC deleted all previous failed downloads from datastore.so pc finally froze i said ta heck with it reinstalled..first installs were error 80070017..now upon this reinstall im getting error 8024AFFF..windows encountered an unknown problem.well not much on that code send you back to do the same thing .some updates have installed,no licence agreements have shown up for any update..uninstalled updates seem to be vista security updates..and service pack 1.it will or did download net framework 3.5 sp1 net framework family. but all other updates have failed with a few exceptions . ive tried suggestions from this forum on similiar subjects.no help.it is a different hard drive in the laptop.but everything installed fine just updates .wow vista dont like it.linex or xp much better.[ Very Inoperable System Technology Axed] [VISTA] .
So im frustrated as heck dont know what else to do ..Another install format.i dont know any help GREATLY appreciated.

Error 8024AFFF suggest any problems with hardware or drivers.Flash new BIOS and update all drivers which you can:

If you don't have any service pack installed then install it standalone versions in safe mode

any problematic hotfixes try install standalone versions too but in normal mode.
If this problem will repeat many times I suggest upgrade to Win 7
