Hi there,

I am having problems with my Vista 64 bit OS. it has service pack 1 installed and I had to wipe the hard drive on New Years eve so I was starting from scratch.

I shut it down on the 1st of Jan with automatic updates and when I came back to it the next morning it was still configuring updates.

I shut it down eventually and restarted it from a restore point and went about finding the problem in the updates. The error is 8024200D with the code of kb905866.

Update for Windows Mail Junk E-mail Filter for x64-based Systems [November 2010] (KB905866)

Download size: 2.1 MB

You may need to restart your computer for this update to take effect.

Update type: Recommended

Install this update for Windows Mail to revise the definition files that are used to detect e-mail messages that should be considered junk e-mail or that may contain phishing content. After you install this item, you may have to restart your computer.

I googled it and I got some suggestions for the error but it didn't correspond with the code for e.g.. Kb905866 Failed, Error Code 80070490 In Vista Update .

SO if anybody knows how to fix this I would be very grateful.

My computer savvy is basic but I was able to install killdisk and do diagnostices with seatools recently so I can do some basic stuff if that info helps you at all.

Welcome
That code usually means that updates were not completed. With this any any updates, do not let them install automatically. Install a few at a time manually.
In this situation, download a few at a time, excluding the problem update. I would set that update to hide (not install) as it may cause you further problems.

Right click on the problem update, and then hide.
