few problems with update vista servpac2 would windows 7 fix it?

First off my laptop is a HP G60-243cl 34 bit its on windows vista (which i hate) i got this computer as a gift for starting college back in 09 it ran great i loved it my boyfriend broke the screen a few months later and i didnt get it fixed until a few months ago because i had a second laptop i was able to use until it broke to. so i had my dad replace the screen and update everything on it including the service pack 2 and a few other things i dont know exactly what aside from the over due windows updates when i got the computer home i turned it on it took me to the start up repair screen i had to reset the computer to an earlier date the earliest date i could rest it to was 5 minutes before the service pack 2 was updated which fixed the problem about a month ago there was a problem where it wouldnt print anything on my printer ive had for years (printer works fine with other computers still) so i kinda just forgot about the problem yesterday i needed to print something it wouldnt print so i went and bought a new printer, the hp wireless something or another which works great....just not on my computer, i cant open my control panel which it said i needed to set the new printer as the default printer but no control panel it will pop up but is blank and then disappears..then i was like oh maybe i should try updating the service pack again but i cant it will not let me it says my isatap adapter is not working which i uninstalled and re-installed twice it says my printer cannot print it says i cannot update my service pack i even went to microsofts website and did the download and it still will not update it installed but no update. would buying windows 7 fix the problem? if i dont get a reply to this i will be taking my computer to the neighborhood computer repair store which i dont want to do. i can usually fix all of these problems myself and can figure out what to do and how to fix something in just a few minutes ive been working on this for hours and im frustrated! ive tried safe mode i have ran norton security suite and norton utilities several times i ran the auto fix through windows says it cannot repair the problem i am completely stumped! PLEASE HELP!!!!

My Computer

went ahead and did the windows 7 advisor and had a lot of uncompatable componets then i got an error message when i tried to uninstall windows defender which was kind of expected
but there were 17 things that were not compatible corrupt and needed to be uninstalled (but couldnt) and only 4 things that were compatible and 23 things that needed updating (and cant)

Depending on just what was corrupt, that could be the problem with your update.
