Vista Ultimate x64 Blue Screen Crashes

I've been using Window's Vista x64 Ultimate for over a year now with no issue, but recently (maybe a week ago) I've started getting random blue screen crashes. They can happen right at start up, or I can be on for 4 hours and no issue.

They have also been getting progressively worse, with today being the worst.

The blue screen crashes are Driver_irqr_not_less_or_equal with a mix of error messages. I've seen.

ox00000001
0x0000001a
0x000000D1
0x00000050

I believe the 0x0000001 has been the most common one. I tried looking for more information in the event viewer (following the advice I've read and being guided by my friend) but haven't had any luck finding anything that would point to why it's crashing.

I'm also not sure how to access the crash dump.

I did run the memtest program, which came up with no errors. We didn't run the entire test, my friend assured me if there was a bad stick that it would be known after 20 minutes.

Now my computer is in a position where it either won't boot, or will boot and crash right away. It also crashed once while booting and for a while (3 attempts) when I turned the computer on nothing happened and it would power up and not boot.

It's not overheating, it's not the ram. Where should I start looking to fix the problem? I also get blue screenz in safemode.

I have all my driver's fully updated according to window's update, with SP2. The only recent installations have been a new codec, regular window's updates... and I also installed some older programs from disks I had.

It definitely helped looking through the crashes. Here's the report. The report only pointed at it potentially being my video driver, and I checked Nvidia's site and there was a release in Aug. It's been at least 3 months since I've updated my video driver, so I downloaded it. Hopefully it's something small like an older video driver, that would be great news.

Conclusion
</B>
25 crash dumps have been found and analyzed. Note that it's not always possible to state with certainty whether a reported driver is really responsible for crashing your system or that the root cause is in another module. Nonetheless it's suggested you look for updates for the products that these drivers belong to and regularly visit Windows update or enable automatic updates for Windows. In case a piece of malfunctioning hardware is causing trouble, a search with Google on the bug check errors together with the model name and brand of your computer may help you investigate this further. I would update all drivers, update to SP2, then see if the problem goes away.

By looking at what you posted, its hard to tell, I would need the dumps and look at it more, but the video drivers is a great place to start, especially since you said it crashes at boot up.

First post.

I'm watching this thread. I have the same/similar problem like IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL and PAGE_FAULT_IN_NONPAGED_AREA. But my troubled computer is at home. And I'm only at home on weekends.

Nothing I can do now but read.

@VaguelyRapt

I've downloaded the soft in advanced and looking forward to using it this weekends.

Great forum!

I would suggest checking your memory and running sfc if this is ok.
There are quite alot of errors there and they are not all the same.
When you boot go into your bios to check the settings.
Is your computer overclocked?

I'm still getting blue screens.

I'm not overclocked and window's is fully updated (according to window's update).

I've made a couple of changes trying to identify the issue. I had a sound blaster sound card on my machine that was a bit old. I couldn't find the correct driver so I disabled it and am using onboard sound now. I also had a belkin nostromo pad n52 which was very old... I thought the driver might be the issue so I've uninstalled it.

I'll upload the dump file tonight.

one place you can check is event viewer. while we are waiting for the dump file you can check event viewer (type event viewer in search) go to windows logs, applications look for errors (red "X" in left column) and see what the most comman errors are. get the event id and source codes to us

I will look around a little more to see if I can find more crash analyzers. In the meantime, if you're worried about old drivers I can suggest trying this program. Never used this one before though either.

Here's the dump file.

I'm having a hard time loading up now.

About cleaning the old drivers... I'm a little leary about going in there and deleting stuff. I would hate to delete the wrong thing and cause even more problems.

Anyone know of a guide on how to reload all my drivers? Is a fresh install of Window's the best solution if it's a software issue?

ok I took a quick look at the 6 most recent dumps. all of them had different faulting processes but on ething most of them had in comman was memory corruption. Im wondering if you overclock, under volt, or do anything that isnt stock. If not I suggest you download memtest and run a comprehensive test on your memory. How much memory do you have and have you added memory lately.

I didnt examine the dumps that were older because You may not even have the same oriblems today.

Hope this helps and let me know if you need help with anything

I already ram memtest86 and found no errors.

I also run everything stock, with no overclocking.

So do you think it's a hardware issue? How would I identify if it's my video card, chip, etc... I have a feeling it's video related (hangs on loading new web pages, etc...) but really I have no idea.

Where do I go from here?

Ignore DriverMax, its actually rather rubbish. Search for dev and in device manager update all your graphics card, sound drivers etc.

I'm interested if you crash in safe mode. Would you consider using safe mode for a bit and see if it crashes then? If you're using safe mode for a long time, be a little careful whatever you do online, because the system is vulnerable in safe mode, just don't go to dangerous sites.

BTW, nice tutorials in your sig there, Frostmourne. XD Bummer it won't let me rep you there...

I've crashed in safemode as well. I crashed once while in there.

I haven't crashed in over 3 hours... I think I might have found the issue.

I had Norton 2009 installed and I've been prompted to install a free update of Norton for a while but I've been ignoring it. I would try to download the new definitions, but not the software. I would have to uninstall 2009 to install 2010, etc... and it seemed like a pain.

I've been running through every possible issue so I updated Norton and I haven't crashed in over 3 hours now. I think the older Norton Antivirus (older as in 2009) wasn't compatible with some newer Vista updates?

It's possible I've been lucky since the crashes come in streaks, but it's possibly fixed. I'll post either way later on to update how things are looking.

Im a religous anti norton person. I have had nothiing but grief from norton products for years. I thought I would give them another chance and guess what it crashed my system and I couldn't un-install it even with their special un-installing tool

I haven't had any problems with crashed with Norton 360 v3.5.6.2. Make sure all your drivers are updated though.

If you crashed in safe mode, I don't think it can be Norton. Assuming it was the same reason for the crash - could there be several causes for crashes? And if you ran sfc, It might just be a hardware issue.

If this is all resolved, I'm just speculating for no reason. XD
