Cannot solve BSOD problem (possibly a driver)

I have Looked all over and cannot find the answer. I have vista ultimate x64 and I have all the latest driver updates. I reinstalled my nvidia graphics driver as well.

I get BSOD every 3 out of 5 times I play Age of Empires II or change graphics options in my Nvidia control panel.

my computer system isn't too old. No clue what those codes indicate, and how to solve it by buying new hardware or if I have some weird corrupt driver or something.

I should also note that sometimes the sound just stops and cannot be turned back on without a restart. *Edit* Although this is likely unrelated *End Edit*when it crashes the resolution settings are changed to low. I've reinstalled the sound driver as well. Let me know if any more information on my part is needed

Here they are. Wasn't savvy enough to get them in the same Zipped folder though, so they're separate.

I completely reinstalled the os with the cd i got from the manufacturer some time ago. it never was completely problem free. Its about 2 yrs old. dual core CPU and Nvidia GTX 280 so wasn't based off of really old hardware either. it definitely could be the memory though because those are 4x2GB and extremely low latency and the newest hardware I put in the machine, looked a bit shady so i probably shouldn't have gotten them that cheap.

I have recently replaced AVG Free with Avast Free after this test. before the test I had just uninstalled AVG.

Uninstall and replace driver for graphics card.

This driver must be replaced it was cited several times as the cause
nvlddmkm.sys, Graphics was mentioned in other BSOD reports.

I had just replaced the graphics driver, complete uninstall and new install of the correct one from Nvidia's website. But then again I did have a few crashes while in the Nvidia control panel changing graphics settings only after the reinstall. But then I wouldn't know if I should re-download the same driver or not found here: NVIDIA DRIVERS 258.96 WHQL
Run an antivirus scan
No Viruses found on AVG or on AVAST

Run an SFC check.
Did not find any integrity violations

Now I'm rebooting to see about the memtest and looking into verifier. as well, looking into updating the red ASACPI.sys file for outdated drivers which if i'm not mistaken is the Asus ATK 0110 Virtual Device ACPI Driver but I'm having some trouble locating it. Sorry I haven't been on to reply much today, I've been at church. So I did a number of complete reinstalls of all Nvidia and ASUS programs and drivers, etc. and realized that my graphics card is powered by EVGA so it wasn't completely Nvida, so I had Nvidia's driver and not EVGA's, which are different I'm sure. So that is taken care of. While installing ASUSUpdate (a BIOS updating Utility) I got another BSOD. I don't know if the installation itself caused it to crash, but I'm not risking it for something I probably don't need, as my bios seems fine and there is no reason for me to mess with it right now. Verifier didn't show up with anything. So other than the one instance, I am going to see where this goes.

Again I'm not very computer savvy so I tried doing the mem test and couldn't quite figure out the settings in the BIOS to load from the USB drive even though I selected that drive as the first load-up in the sequence. I may just have to buy a CD and do it off that. Couldn't find anything with ASACPI.sys so I'm hoping it was removed when I uninstalled ASUS products. May do up 1 more report and see if it looks good, if u don't mind? I may just have to learn this stuff so I can help some people out as well, you've been awesome sir. thanks for your time.

You are doing fine. After each step use the computer and see how it works. After you are done and you have another BSOD just post. Many times it is trial and error to find the solution. The reports put us on the right road, but we decide which fork to take.

How very disappointing to me to find that my BIOS wont boot from USB for the Memtest. I will have to go buy a few CDs for the memtest at a later date. Well, I got another BSOD while playing the Witcher (updated stable version). It specifically said that I have a problem with a driver, and it looked like a new problem because I haven't seen this BSOD before. I will upload it if thats alright *Edit* what it says about no antivirus is not correct, as I have MsSE and Malwarebytes installed as recommended. As well, I did a windows mem diagnostic and it didn't find anything, will try to do an extended run but that one seems to take hours just to get to 21%. */edit*

I began to check the file and the first item that I checked was not fixed. Asacpi.sys. is still listed. Follow all the instructions and then if there are more BSOD post.

I tried to do a repair via my vista installation cd and it told me that it wasn't compatible or something, which is crap. I'm going to do a disk error check. I uninstalled asacpi.sys in the device manager and all its stuff, rebooted and windows update showed it ready to be installed. I'm not sure I want to install it though from all its problems, I may just leave it hanging in the balance where its at, as an unknown driver. I tried looking up the other two and couldn't find diddly. But they are new so they would have had to come from the updates that I got for all my drivers. Which is crap again

windows update has the asacpi.sys utility driver listed as 16 KB download while the ASUS site ASUSTeK Computer Inc.-Support- (under motherboard>socket775>P5nT-Deluxe>Vista x64>Utilities) has it listed as 837.17 KBytes, and lets face it, ASUS is not known to have steady reliable software. Just wish I knew why the huge difference. I'm thinking about doing a huge reinstall but I know I would loose a lot of stuff. May have to save a few documents online if I do decide I can't fix this.

I'm going to keep looking up those 3 items, mostly the last two because I jacked up asacpi.sys to where it shouldn't work anymore. If anyone knows anything about those, let me know. crcdisk.sys is a windows signed driver I found out.

Dont know what you did with asacpi.sys, but all you have to do is find it and change it to .bak from .sys then reboot.

Many of the original problems cited are still present. I mentioned, above, drivers that are being cited. Every report mentions memory. Memtest86 has to be run for 6 passes and then test each slot with a known good stick of ram.

Appears that the Driver Verifier might be on. If so turn it off.

couldn't find this one: BS_DEF.sys Asus Tek Corp. I looked in explorer with all the drivers and in with asus files.

But these three I renamed to bak, hopefully that was right:
asacpi.sys, crcdisk.sys, Nvlddmkm.sys --> asacpi.bak, crcdisk.bak, Nvlddmkm.bak.

"Dont know what you did with asacpi.sys, but all you have to do is find it and change it to .bak from .sys then reboot."

What I did was disable it, but it is now enabled with the update and name change.

The reason I didn't at first was because I didn't know how, and I just learned lol.

I did find BS_DEF in the registry editor, and it is possible for me to delete the whole thing, but just in case, I thought i'd check and make sure I don't kill anything before I do. I know its by asus but I don't know what exactly it is for, and if i need it or not. *Edit* I found that its a BIOS Flash tool, and it isn't something I really need, I have a CD for all that stuff I may just have to load it up and see what I can do about downloading then updating it. */Edit* HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE>SYSTEM>CurrentControlSet>Services>BS_DEF

Just about ready to call it a night.

Dont worry about taking time or questions etc, the only thing that matters is that we get this fixed. As I mentioned it looks like the driver verifier may be turned on, turn it off now. After the memory test, read the thread over make sure that everything is done or give me a list of what is still open. After the memory test and you turn off the Driver Verifier I think we may have a pleasant surprise.

So I tried repairing and instead did a complete reinstall. Which ended up being exactly okay because I've been tinkering a bit too much and needed to restore a lot of stuff. I still want to do memtest for the hardware; I had it installed on a cd, tried booting from the cd but it still wont load or even start, I don't know what to do, maybe my bios doesn't support it? or maybe I am doing something wrong, I'll try looking into my BIOS and seeing if I can do it one more time, but I have doubts.

Its great because windows stored all of my old files on the harddrive so all I did was reinstall drivers (though it took a day) and took all my "Important" files off the windows.old file, then deleted it for disk space and cause its now useless. Any suggestions about that mem test that u can think of? u can only do it from USB or cd right?

As far as I know you need a CD, not sure about a USB. I do know that you cannot test from within the OS.

I would try a good bootable CD and see if it is the computer or the CD.

Make sure that computer is set to boot from the CD.

If it seems to be the CD, this is your answer

Alright, that really did help, the problem was that I cannot boot from my cd player, only my blu ray will let me, which is odd, but oh well, it worked, and barely started and had red errors pop up. a couple I wrote down before I start individually checking the ram sticks are 00218b9ccfc - 8587.6 mb and 00218b9d0b8 - 8587.6 mb and 2 others. Those tests take all day huh? might have to do them while I'm at work (thats another thing, I've been gone working lol).

So far the computer has been great even with those hidden memory errors except for an app crash. I will look into it later, but here are some of its details. faulty application: svchost.exe_wdiservicehost version 6.0.6.001.18000. Here are some other errors from event viewer: diagnostic service host stopped working; The machine-default permission settings do not grant Local Activation permission for the COM Server application with CLSID; Failed to create restore point on volume (Process = E:\DirectX9c\DXSETUP.exe /silent; Descripton = äxu; Hr = 0x80070057).
Those are some errors separated by ";", I wonder if my installing a bunch of new stuff makes my computer think its under attack. I have only malwarebytes and defender and firewall up, will have to look into those. also looking at this site for the diagnostic service host. How to fix "Host process for windows services stopped working and was closed" on Vista

Will get back with anything new I find. I don't know if you can understand the memtest86+ code for the errors, I can't, but I'm pretty sure it just means I need new Ram for each stick I will test that comes out with errors.
