Vista Log in Problems (caused by crash?)

Ok, I'm new to this whole forum thing and if this has already been posted I apologize but I could not find it. So here it is, Thursday night i noticed my PC acting a little slow, all of the sudden I blue screen and my PC reboots. When the log in screen came up it was a very low resolution and it said "other user" I tried to log in with my normal account but it says something like it could not be accessed or can not be found at this time. I also tried to just log in with other user and still nothing. I've tried system restore at 3 different earlier times. and start up repair several times. I've been searching for an answer but nothing quite like my problem is out there. Again if there is I apologize but I'm not as PC savvy as some but I would definitely like to learn. Please help me resolve my situation.

The hints that you have given are resolution
check graphics driver in the device manager. Get there from seach
Little slow check memory
If these are negative post your dump file.
Download and test RAM with Memtest 86. Test each RAM stick separately, for 6 passes. Then with a known good stick test each RAM slot.

If you post your dumpfile the earliest that I can read it is later this week. I will ask others to help before that, however

I have a mem tester and it says its fine (mind you i tested it prolly a month before this happened)

I'm not sure if I can search, due to the fact I can not log in, I cant even access safe mode. I hope I don't have to take my PC in, I'm not even sure how much it would cost.
I'll try the blue screen thing and update you whether it works or not. Thanks . wish me luck

Ok, so after searching around the net I tried to use Command Prompt to activate teh admin account. No luck, and the only way I can access the Command prompt is through the CD Repair.

This is all that I have for repair.
If you create a recovery DVD, you may be able to boot to recovery options
Create Recovery DVD

The Vista recovery disk is used to boot Vista when it won't boot - to run Startup Repair, System Restore, access a Command Line, Recover using a Vista Backup Image, etc.
System Recovery Options

If Vista will not start now, boot the Recovery CD to run Startup Repair which automates System Restore as well as numerous other tests including System File Checker which can repair system files which are not corrupted beyond repair.

If Vista still will not start, try booting into Safe Mode to run sfc /scannow to repair System files.

Below is a bulletin distributed by MS to explain the start up procedure when Windows will not boot.
  • Startup Repair. Startup Repair is a Windows recovery tool that can fix certain problems, such as missing or damaged system files, that might prevent Windows from starting. Startup Repair is located on the System Recovery Options menu, which is on the Windows Vista installation disc. If your computer has preinstalled recovery options, it might also be stored on your computer's hard disk. For more information, see Startup Repair: frequently asked questions and What are the system recovery options in Windows Vista? If your computer does not include Startup Repair, your computer manufacturer might have customized or replaced the tool. Check the information that came with your computer or go to the manufacturer's website.
  • Change restart settings in safe mode. If your computer is stuck in a loop where Windows fails, attempts to restart, and then fails again repeatedly, restart your computer in safe mode and select the Disable automatic restart on system failure checkbox. For more information, see Advanced startup options (including safe mode).
  • Reinstall. If no other options have solved the problem, and you are sure that your computer's hardware is functioning normally, you might need to reinstall Windows. A custom (clean) installation of Windows will permanently delete all of the files on your computer and reinstall Windows, so only use this option if all other recovery options have been unsuccessful. After the installation, you will need to reinstall your programs and restore your files from backup copies. For more information, see Installing and reinstalling Windows**.

Judging by the way things are going I think i May have to re-install, I really do not want to do that. i have a friend who has a large external hard drive so ill take my files off my drive and try to save them that way, I'm actually considering upgrading to 7

Thanks, unfortunately none of my attempts have worked so im going to have to just install 7 and say goodbye to vista. just have to wait till my friend gets in town in order to use his hard drive to store my files.
