Iastor.sys and BSOD

Hi everyone,

I'm having a problem with my laptop. Today I started getting BSOD. Something along the lines like this:

DRIVER_IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL
Iastor.sys 0x000000D1

Sometimes right upon loading windows it will BSOD...other times it will takes 5 minutes to BSOD upon loading.
It was loading fine before this...is it possibly a virus? I would post the mini dump but its really hard to without getting BSOD (I'm currently on another laptop).

I was wondering if anyone could help me out?

My laptop spec's:
Asus F8P-B2b
Vista Ultimate x64 SP2
4gb memory
500gb Segate Momentus SATA(i replaced my old hard drive)

Hi Richard, thanks for the reply.
I was able to download the exe file and run it, but I was BSOD'd in the middle of what it was doing... Here is what I could zip and load onto my secondary laptop.

Thank you for that Richard.

I'm having a lot of difficulty because I'm constantly being BSOD'd... is there a solution to stop the BSODs before I can actually update the driver? I tried safe mode and i still get BSOD'd.

Ok So I went to the Intel Driver update Site successfully without crashing...

all that was available to me for download was the wireless and wired networking drivers... could someone point me to where I can download an update iastore.sys?

Hi Rich, Thanks for the link.
The computer scan only found 2 things for me, wireless and wired networking drivers.... which doesnt fix my iastor.sys problem.

Instead I manually did a search for "Intel Matrix Storage Manager" and i was able to download the v8.9.0.1023... I installed it, but I still received the blue screen of death... Stopping at Iastor.sys... Any thoughts?

Are you using a raid configuration?
http://www.webopedia.com/TERM/R/RAID.html

If not you can change the .sys extension to .bup on the iastor.sys.
You can forget the driverquery, I checked from the reports, you did update properly.

If you dont know what raid is, lets assume that you are not using it and then iastor is not necessary.

Driver Location
C-->Windows-->System 32-->drivers.

Make a system restore point, just in case

Then go to the location find the driver and change the extension to .bup.
This will effectively kill it, but it will still be available if needed.

Since the BSODs all say Iastor, this should end it.

Aye.... Now it restarts before Windows loads! It restarts right when that black screen with + green bar show up on the bottom. Haha this is so annoying. I guess I'll system restore it.

You could try system restore but Im not sure it will work in this situation. You are going to have the same drivers etc, but cant hurt to try.

So I did a startup repair from my windows disk and I was able to system restore to an earlier point.
So I checked my drivers folder and my iastor.sys is restored. And its been roughly 15 minutes without any BSOD (i hope it stays that way). I wonder if its related to a trojan?

We can only wait and hope with the BSOD, but the trojan is easy
Run a full and updated anti virus scan
Download and run a full scan with malwarebytes.
If these come out ok, its pretty sure trojan is not the problem.

Oh ok... well I did a scan with malwarebytes and it found 4 objects from "Trojan.Agent"...I removed them, restarted.

Everything seems fine again except now everything is lagging/hanging/not functioning. Folders won't open... The windows Start button doesn't even fully load the whole menu.
I can't do anything on the laptop. I know this might be a bit off topic to BSOD, but maybe you would know whats going on here?
