BSOD iastorv.sys

Hi,

I have a Dell precision m6400 laptop that keeps giving me the BSOD for the last 3 days. I'm not sure what happened, but the crash seems to be pointing to the iastorv.sys file.

Unfortunately, I am unable to go online and download the Windows_NT6_BSOD_v3.03_jcgriff2_.exe utility to get information on my system, as I can only go to into safemode - and that does not allow software install.

Could someone please advise on how I could troubleshoot my system? I was able to transfer the dump files to my wife's laptop and can upload it if you'd like to see them.

My system is a vista 64 ultimate. It has 4 gb, uses ndevia quadro fx 2700m video driver.

Thanks a lot! :)

Thanks, Richc46. I read that instruction, but that works only with a computer that still has access to the normal desktop and/or internet. I can only get onto the safemode..

Hello and welcome to the forum.

Yes it would help if you send the dump files.

The only thing that I can, tell you then, is that it might be a driver problem
Maybe you can go online with another computer donwload to a finger drive and then transfer to your computer or try in safe mode.

Okay, that sounds good. I can definitely try to driver download, although I'm not sure if you meant the entire driver/software installation or just simply replacing the file that has a problem from dell website.

Here are the dmp files. If you could please analyze them for me, that would be awesome. Thank you, everyone.

All the reports point to the driver that I mentioned previously. Update driver and then if you get more BSODs, post.

Hi,
The driver you require should be made available through you Dell Support Centre link, if you have it on your computer.

I have just used that a lot in the last few days with a Dell 1545 laptop.
Takes you to Dell, reads your computer etc,. Good!

Thanks, guys. I will check into the driver and see if that would take care of it. Much appreciated.

The iso file I am unable to install due to me being in safe mode. I'll hope for a more updated driver from dell that would boot off the cd or a single file download and replacement of the corrupted driver. I'll let you know how it goes..

Richards advice is sound, if you CAN go direct.
Some Dell models, the only way to update is through their website, as I have found out these last three days!!
Manufactured by Nvidia, but they refer you back to dell, just tried it on a dell 1545.
But M6400 might have better luck from Nvidia. Hope so!!
Especially if newer model dell are then able to scan for updates, but unsure which models.
Thought the background info might be of some use?

Hello I forgot to ask you if you have thought about doing a system restore, not a factory restore. When doing on you go back at least 5 days before the problem started. I will give the info just in case you need to do one.

http://www.vistax64.com/tutorials/66971-system-restore.html

http://www.vistax64.com/tutorials/76905-system-restore-how.html

http://www.vistax64.com/tutorials/194765-system-recovery-options.html

http://www.vistax64.com/tutorials/141820-create-recovery-disc.html

I had my first bout with BSOD and it just kept getting worse and I wound up doing a full factory recover, this was 3 or 4 days ago right now I seem to be good, but I did this under the advice or Richc46 he is very good and is a BSOD expert. If you follow his instructions he will get your system back up and running like it should be. I am glad that I could help with the safe boot tutorial and I hope that these tutorials on system recovery and system restore will help also.

Tom
