IASTOR.SYS BSOD on startup

Hello,

My laptop recently got this error. Only a few seconds after Windows loads, both in normal and safe mode, I get the BSOD, Stop error in IASTOR.SYS

I am unable to run any diagnostics according to the sticky thread, I don't have time to run any program before I get the BSOD.

I am running Vista 64 Bit. This is the original OEM version of the installation. My hardware was purchased March 2009, and the OS has not been changed since then.

Can you do a system restore in safe mode, not a factory install, but the bad news is you might have to do a factory restore if other things don't work, See if you can do a system restore in safe mode, here is a tutoril and I will turn this over to one of the forum experts on BSOD's.

Unfortunately I can not get any of that to work... I have my recovery CD, and the only thing I can do with it is re-install windows from scratch (using it as a boot disk). It will not give me the option to repair windows...

But I can't access the computer long enough to do any of that. I open windows and it blue screens... thats what I tried to mention in my original post.

Right now I am using a computer borrowed from other family to post this.

Do you have a Ubuntu Live CD? We may have to retrieve the Minidumps Manually

I will need them to Debug them without them I cannot help you

To save a bit of time, can't we just get him to boot from the Windows disc and either:

-System restore
-Startup repair
-Something in command prompt (SFC perhaps, or try copying the minidump to an external device - I don't know whether this is possible because I am not sure as to whether it will recognise external devices without Windows being run, if that makes any sense :p)
