I think its a crash...?

So, I'm sorry if I did/ am not putting this in the right forum. But here we go. Right now I'm on a family computer; just to clear up any confusions.
So I guess it's been going on for about a year now. I have gotten scarewares more times than I can remember. However only a few months ago, I was infected with one; 'Vista Antivirus 2011.' Before the most challenging part of getting rid of the virus was merely the fact that while in safe mode my laptop randomly shuts down (I think it's due to the fact that my laptop becomes overheated fairly easily)However this time, I read a tutorial requiring me to go into 'Task Manager' and ending a process. I ended the process titled, 'cxu.exe' (Let me just say now, that I'm a highschool student and I have almost no knowledge of this type of encounter other then learning from watching youtube videos/ reading online tutorials. And I have now learned my lesson not to touch a single thing that is in my computer that I did not put there...because...)
I thought I got rid of it. See, for some reason, after ending the process, it did as the tutorial said it would and stopped the virus from popping up. For only an hour or two... Then after the hour of having a decently working computer came my very first encounter with the Blue Screen of Death. The BSOD showed up while nothing was happening and then restarted my computer only to have a continual process of BSODs pop up. So of course I did what I knew... I went to safe mode w/networking (Ahh this selection is way too familiar to me) Well anyways I thought I had done it...I finally got rid of that damn virus that took up my whole precious weekend...yea, right >.< psshh. The computer found 10 infections and I got rid of them as always. However oddly enough it did nothing for me. I tried the process again- same result....again- same result... AGAIN- same exact results. And it goes on. So all I did at that moment was put some files that I really wished to keep, even if the computer went down, on a usb just in case.
This was several months ago...
During this time not included I hadn't touched a computer, I was too involved in school work.
However I have recently had time to involve myself once again, and it seems the files I put on the usb went bad and no longer showed up...? I guess? I was really confused. Never seen this before. I went back into my old infected computer and kept trying to get those files back on the usb. I got majority of them in, but my computer kept doing that stupid thing where it shuts down in safe mode. Now I only need like 2 or 3 more files that I would really like saved. However it appears that now Safe Mode also shows a BSOD. Wonderful...Just wonderful, RIGHT?
When I try to do a system restore, on the startup black screens by pressing one of the 'F' hotkeys, it gives me a popup saying I need to run rstrui.exe /OFFLINE:C: /windows. So I went exploring and it looks like I'll be able to restore it to its manufacturers condition which I plan to do once I'm able to get those files back. When I type in the code in the black command screen, another pop up comes up saying the parameter is incorrect(0x80070057.)
So as you can see I've been having so many problems and it gets me frustrated to the point where I have to make a joke out of it.

Anyways here is some additional information-
...Windows Vista Home Premium
...Laptop (XD)
... Guess thats it right now(haha) let me know if any other additional info is needed.

Sorry for the very long read/rant. I thought the more info the better.
Thanks in advance just for at least reading this.

Yeah, everyone keeps telling me to create dump files. I'm sorry if I'm misunderstanding but like I said before my computer no longer allows me to get on to safe mode due to a BSOD. I get a BSOD when I attempt to log into safe mode and well just whenever I get on to my computer.

I received some help on my youtube account by pming a person who works w/ computers, and he said it was possible to reinstall your computer, and it will keep a backup folder of all your old documents from before. All I want is a few pictures that I deem important as well as some word documents....no software or any long downloads. Are there any tutorials, or anyone who could help me with this, on the site to reinstall your computer doing the above (still keeping the files in an accessible folder.)
