HP laptop doesn't shut down BSOD: 0x0000009f

Seems to be very common problem and therefore finding solution not easy.
HP Pavilion DV6000, DV6500, DV6645 - all these numbers are present on laptop sticker.
CPU is AMD Turion 64 X2 Mobile TL-58 1.9GHz

The problem first appeared after updating friend's laptop to Windows 7 32 bit.
Now I'm trying to clean install again Vista 32 bit but no success.

Problem is that laptop doesn't shut down or does it after 10 minutes with BSOD:

0x0000009f driver_power_state failure

I disabled all network devices but no help.

I have installed all Vista updates, SP1, SP2.
All latest drivers are downloaded from HP USA website.

Any ideas how to continue troubleshooting?

Event viewer doesn't state anything special, at least for me, but I attached extract to the thread.

Vista 32-bit
- the original installed OS on the system was Vista 32 Hewlett Packard.
- 1. after upgrade/ installation of Windows 7 32 bit failed with similar/same error. 2. I did a Windows 7 64 bit clean installation from original CD, the same error.
3. Finally I'm trying to clean install Vista 32 OEM back. And I have downloaded all latest drivers from HP site but still PC doesn't shut down properly.

Vista isn't activated because sticker key doesn't match the OEM installation CD ... and there is still a 3 days grace period until calling to MS.

- What is the age of system (hardware)? 3 years.

During W7 installation I never waited 10 minutes and didn't know about BSOD ... and there was no errors in Windows 7 event log. So I abandoned w7, as being sure that w7 not being compatible with the hardware.

Now I have spent 4-5 hours, reading many BSOD: 0x0000009f shut down descriptions, but no one doesn't seem to be the present case. Most likely it's a driver but looks like not the latest one from HP site, as shut down problem was already during Vista clean installation from original OEM Vista Home Premium CD. The OEM CD is not the original from HP and there is no recovery partition on HDD.

I'd be very surprised and happy if someone could figure out, where exactly to look for this troublemaker.

Thanks for your support. In meantime I did a clean Windows XP SP3 installation.
During installation PC wasn't able to reboot and I had to keep the power button pressed ... when XP installation had finished the problem still persisted and there were no XP drivers on HP site...
Next I started over again with clean Vista OEM Home Premium CD installation. No extra HP drivers installed and the problem is still the same.
I followed instructions - How to troubleshoot a problem by performing a clean boot in Windows Vista or in Windows 7 - but no help.
Is there something else to do in order to find failing piece?

Thanks!

Please explain your reference to XP. My answers refer only to Vista.

It means - purpose was in meantime to check PC in Windows XP environment.
Now I'm installing once again back Vista 32 (as told in previous post), installing all HP drivers and Service packs.
