having issues with blue screen

mattlp63

Member
was updating my vid card and in the process of uninstalling my old one i got the blue screen followed by a normal start up. then installed the new card and worked ok. while downloading the newest drivers for the card kept getting the blue screen and the pc wouldn's start up with our having the vista disk in the drive.

then i started getting memory errors, after running the diagnostic it confirmed memory issues. i noticed during the tests i was getting an error saying there was a device or driver error (cant remember now wich one it said)

i have the dump files zipped but i dont know how to put them on here to have someone look at it.

vista home basic 32bit with 4GB ram

Please provide this information: http://www.vistax64.com/crashes-debugging/282419-blue-screen-death-bsod-posting-instructions.html

Memory dump blames your nVidia video drivers. Please:
- download a fresh set of drivers from Drivers - GeForce
- uninstall the current video drivers
- install the freshly downloaded drivers
- monitor for further BSOD's

My Computer

while trying to run the BSOD Dump & System File Collection app from the link in the posting instructions had another bsod happen. just now uninstalled the current drivers and going to attempt to download new ones. seems as tho everytime i try to download or instal something the bsod happens.

My Computer

If you're getting BSOD's when downloading/installing - update your network drivers
The e1e6032.sys driver is a part of this and it dates from 2007

As long as you're at it, update the modem drivers (which date from 2006)
and the Audio drivers (which date from 2008)

My Computer

After my last post and successfully getting the vid card drivers downloaded and installed, had to restart and now getting the bsod and unable to get windows to even start. Gave up on it last night but will start again when I get home today. If put the old vid card in do you think that might help to just be able to start up and update those old drivers?

My Computer

Trying another video card is always a good idea when video problems occur.
Check to make sure that everything is firmly seated in the slots/plugs.

My Computer

ok so all the third party drivers are coming back with a "up to date" message. i switched out vid cards to my old one and was able to start up with no BSOD. is it maybe a bad card or is there something else going on? i know a little about this stuff but no enough i guess.

My Computer

What is telling you that the driver are up-to-date?
If it's Windows Update or the Update Driver function of Device Manager - it's lying to you!!! (Seriously, the most up to date drivers aren't available in this way).
If it's the PC manufacturer's utility - that's lying to you alos. That's just telling you that it's the most up to date version at the PC manufacturer's website.

Most drivers (and devices) are manufactured by another party - and those are the people that will have the most current drivers.

Wait and see if there are any further BSOD's.
If so, zip up the memory dumps and upload them with your next post.

My Computer

ok the first one, when i attemt to instal i get "installed version isnt suppoerted, uninstall before reinstalling this version. how do i uninstall it? just from the device manager?

My Computer

Which driver?
What's the link for the download?

In most cases, you uninstall from Control Panel.
If the software isn't listed in Control Panel, check in the Start Menu to see if there's an entry for it there (and if there's an uninstaller listed)
If it's not there, then uninstall from Device Manager being sure to select the "remove driver software" or similar check box. If it's not there, then the driver may not be removed.

My Computer

ok started getting the bsod again today after a windows update. i decided to install the old vid card (xfx hd radeon 6770) instead of the new gforce 570. now there is no video card being recognized at all and i can only start in either safe mode, or normal but the windows cd has to be in the drive.

and when trying to update the drivers from before was having a hell of a time because the pc would start to auto install drivers afetr i uninstalled them. kept getting the uninstall previous version error but got it eventually.

new zip

My Computer

BSOD's after changing hardware are usually either bad hardware or bad connections.
Unplug the system from the wall and open up the case.

Hold onto the metal of the case and unplug the video card.
Visually inspect it (front and back) for any signs of a problem. Make sure that the cooler is clear of any dirt/dust/debris.
Then put it back in very, very carefully - checking to make sure that it's fully seated (front and rear) in the slot
Then make sure that the power cable (if needed) is also neatly and firmly seated.

Plug it in and turn it on (with the side panel off) and see if the fan is working.

Your network driver was rolled back from a 2011 version to a 2007 version. Why was that?
Don't worry about the auto-driver installs - they really don't affect the update process. You still have to go out and find the latest drivers and install them.

Memory dumps point to hardware, so the most likely cause is the replacement video card or the connection that it makes with the system/motherboard. If that doesn't fix things, then start with the free hardware diags here: Hardware Diags

Your network driver was rolled back from a 2011 version to a 2007 version. Why was that?
Don't worry about the auto-driver installs - they really don't affect the update process. You still have to go out and find the latest drivers and install them.
[/code]

that was one of the auto installs i was talking about, after uninstalling the 2007 and starting the install of the 2011 updated, the auto install began and installed the 2007. kind of a pain. the modem drivers i hadnt done but disabled since i dont use, unless u think i should update too then i will. installed the new audio drivers but they are still showing 2008 for some reason.

anyways, after checking everything for being plugged in securely and such, i started up and the auto install began work on the older vid card i put back in (finally recognized it). afraid to update drivers tho lol

also noticed the 2 windows updates are the same as before the bsod started up again.

going to keep working on it, have decided to build my first pc and have everything shipped on the way. will come back if i need any help with the new build.

thanks for all the help so far
