Vista Home Basic Blue Screen

I have a Vista Home Basic desktop that, for the past week, has been crashing once a day with a blue screen. I have had the computer for six years, don't know if age has to do with it. I have tried running Malwarebytes in safe mode with networking every time it crashes but it doesn't find anything. Any suggestions on what I should do to get rid of this problem?

- the original installed OS on the system? Yes
- an OEM or full retail version? Full Retail, bought it from Walmart
- What is the age of system (hardware)? Bought it back in 2006
- What is the age of OS installation (have you re-installed the OS?) Six years old

Windows Mobile device is having issues, please uninstall it from your system.

System is experiencing excessive paging. Increase the RAM. Until you increase the RAM, trim your startups and only run one program at a time to prevent excessive slowness. I recommend a minimum of 2 gB for any Vista system, and 4 gB is optimum.

Only 150 updates and no Service Packs. Most Vista systems have SP2 and at least 350 updates.
Please update as follows:
SP1 and SP2 aren't installed, please do the following:
Installing Service Packs
1. Visit the PC manufacturer's website and update ALL drivers. DO NOT use Windows Update or the "Update drivers" function of Device Manager. This step is very important as you have numerous outdated drivers.
2. Check Device Manager for any unknown/disabled devices - if there are unknown/disabled devices, fix them with the latest drivers from the device manufacturer's website (not the PC Manufacturer)
3. Visit Windows Update and get all updates (may take repeated visits)
4. Visit Windows Update and get Service Pack 1 and Service Pack 2 (usually under Important Updates).
Read these notes:
Read these notes for installing Vista SP1: Learn how to install Windows Vista Service Pack 1 (SP1)
Read these notes for installing Vista SP2: Learn how to install Windows Vista Service Pack 2 (SP2)
5. Visit Windows Update and get any other available updates. May take repeated visits, but keep it up until you get several "Windows is updated" results.
If you're having difficulties with installing a Service Pack, please use the SURTool from this link: Description of the System Update Readiness Tool for Windows Vista, for Windows Server 2008, for Windows 7, and for Windows Server 2008 R2

I have had limited success in installing updates/Service Packs when using a "clean boot". I suspect that I'm just bypassing the problem - and that it can come back to bite me in the butt later on.
The following info is just FYI, I've already addressed the issues that I saw in the above paragraphs

My Computer

Thank you so much! I just uninstalled Windows Mobile device and I am now starting on one of many updates from the manufacturer. I do have a question tho, will installing all these updates slow down my computer more? I know it may be a dumb question but looking at the amount of updates I got to install makes worry.

My Computer

No, the updates won't slow down the system.
But the lack of memory (RAM) will tend to slow the system down as much has to be done in the paging file.
The paging file is on the hard drive - and is much, much slower than the system reading from the RAM.

I just got finished with trimming down my start ups, is there any other way to increase my RAM? Would going through the system and deleting old programs that I do not use anymore help?

My Computer

Nope, that wouldn't help.
Check in Task Manager (right click on the Task Bar).
See what's running there - either Google it or post back here with any questions.

RAM is pretty cheap now, so upgrading it wouldn't cost all that much. 1 gB sticks can be had for as little as $15 (US) and 2 gB sticks for as little as $30 (US). Don't pay for installation - it's very easy to install in most systems. Post back with your system details if you'd like more advice on how to install it.
