wDf01000.sys Error

Hi,

Laptop (Dell Inspiron 1520) worked fine before I went to sleep last night, no virus alerts, no error messages, no speed/connection problems, nothing. Woke up this morning to a blue screen. The message I get is:

STOP: 0x0000007E (0xc0000005, 0x82273005, 0x80599A3c, 0x80599738)

wdf01000.sys - Address 82273005 base at 82202000 datestamp 5010ac41

Anyone know what these numbers refer to? Last time I had trouble and took to the Geek Squad, they didn't seem to know much about what error codes are saying. I'm using Vista and have Norton Anti-virus installed. Any info/help would be appreciated.

Thanks.

And I should mention the blue screen won't even let me boot in safe mode or start from the last successful startup. Can't really get anything past it.

This is what you do
Install Ubuntu. If you cannot install, you have hardware problems
If you can install, back up your stuff and we will dig deeper, since the problem is software.
Use Ubuntu Live CD to Backup Files from Your Dead Windows Computer - How-To Geek
I can get you a CD so that you can reinstall, if its a software problem.

Luckily I already have everything backed up. The problems started when I had to replace the HD on my 1520 last year around this time, and I never had the Inspiron 1520 recovery disk. Dell was very difficult when it came to purchasing one. They basically wanted to take all my credit card information (by phone) but couldn't guarantee that they still had disks to sell. So I took it to Best Buy, and they restored the system with basic drivers (without the Dell disk), and ever since I've had crash/blue screen issues periodically.

So I learned to not keep anything important on the 1520 without first backing up. It's been VERY unstable ever since the restore without the Dell drivers. So I'm already all backed up.

I'm using my work laptop now BTW.
