Laptop keeps hanging

Mum's telling me she is having problems with her 6 year old Acer, keeps hanging up, can move cursor with mouse but nothing works or something. Not sure what the problem is really.

I had the BSOD with my Win 7 machine last year and I downloaded this app which ran a diagnostic and then someone from sevenforums worked out it was just a driver update.

Is there something similar I can run on my mum's computer? I can wire her up to teamviewer and do it remotely.

It is possible that she may of had a BSOD however based on the vague symptoms it is unlikely. Are you able to provide more information? If you are unsure run the diagnostic tool on sevenforums to retrieve any dump files on the machine and then upload them into a zip folder here. To help find out if any of the dump files are relevant could you please post a date as to when this started happening.

Many Thanks,
Josh! :)

Thanks,

Do you have a link to that diagnostic tool?

I had a look on teamviewer last night, tried a few things. There were a couple of important updates (can't remember what now) and I ran an sfc /scannow which found corrupt files, but forgot to grab the CBS.log file. It was late and I just had a quick look.

I'll try and get it later and find out if the problems persist.

Cheer.

OK I just ran the SF diag tool on her computer. It came up with a warning reminding me to run as admin, which I did so I think it's ok.

edit- not seeing the file I uploaded come up, let me know if it didn't upload.

You need to attach it to the post for us to see it. An example of how to do so is below:

Insert inline. OK That worked. Why the hell do we need to upload the file in a new window, then drag it into another place on that window, tick the box and then click inline to place the file into the main window? How is that obvious????? How about just upload file??? One step... jeez

You have got the Enhanced Attachment Uploading: enabled in your User CP (which is the default). To switch back to the other mode, click on User CP and then, under My Settings / My Account, click on General Settings. The option you require is under Miscellaneous Options at the foot of the page. Click on the option Enhanced Attachment Uploading off and then click Save Changes. Hopefully, this will solve your attachment problem.
