Can't Start Dell PC Due to BSODs

Hello Everyone,
I'm getting a STOP : 0x00000024 (x0190203 x82wFA7248, xC0000102, X00000000) BSOD error after I boot a Dell Dimension 4550 running Windows XP Pro.

The error occurred the first time I started the PC and again when I tried booting in safe mode. The Windows XP startup splash screen does appear for a quick moment just prior prior to the BSOD. I tried setting the bios to boot from the CD-ROM where the Dell Windows XP Pro installation disk was. The Windows XP Professional Set Up menu offered three options, the first being to install the OS, the second was to try to repair using Recovery Console and the third to exit the system. I typed R for repair and the message "Examining disk 114440 MB disk 0 at id 0 on bus 0 on atapi..." displayed on the bottom of the screen and the system totally froze , I had to use the power button to shut down. I removed the diskette drive from the boot sequence in the bios, tried again but got the same results. I tried this procedure a few times and at one point hit enter to see how far I could get in the install process but got the same "examining disk" message.

Any idea what the problem might be? From what I've read it's a problem w/the NTFS, can that be fixed? This PC belongs to a friend who would like to get some files from it as possible, is there any way to remove that data from the PC? Thanks in advance for any info you can provide!

Rich,
Thanks for the quick reply. I'd be happy to provide you with the info you need but can't get into the system to get it. No matter what method I used to log into Windows, start normally, safe mode etc. the system always crashes and freezes at the BSOD. Any other way to get that info? Thanks again.

I wonder if the problem is with the video card or sound card. You might try disconnecting the power to the video card and pulling the sound card (if you have one).

However, as I understand it, you still can't boot your system normally.
