Wow- my mind hurts after trying to read that. A little punctuation goes a long way. Let me try to rewrite that:

Can someone please help me? My DVD/CD drive is not reading any disk, music or games. I tried to fix registry errors and when I click on my computer to double-click the game in the drive, it tells me "No CD" and opens up. I uses to click on My Computer and look at drive E, and the game would be there. Now it just says DVD. I have Vista 64 bit. Can someone please help?

How old is the drive? It sounds more like a hardware problem than a driver problem, but you never know. Can you test the drive in another system?

The fact that the drive is new has little bearing on the situation. There are drives that come Dead On Arrival, and there are drives that last a week and then fail. Try rebooting your computer and hitting F12 during the POST to bring up the list of bootable drives. See if your optical drive is listed.

Try uninstalling all of the drivers in Device Management and rebooting. Then try inserting a disk.

Please, I asked for details, not an exact repeat of your last post. If I wanted to re-read your post, I would have. First, what is a benq?

I believe a Benq is a brand of computer. I have a similar problem to the TC, I have a thread about it a few threads below this, but my HP Pavillion laptop, only bought April last year, has stopped reading disks through the Pioneer DVDRW drive.

I accessed my BIOS like suggested, though i had to use F9 not F12, and could not see the option "optical drives", let alone my driver listed.

Rather than hijacking this thread, i request you check my thread, and help me there if you can

Thank you in advance

Rurik

Go ahead and hijack. I am not referring to entering the CMOS, just pulling up the popup boot menu.

Oh, how do I do that? There doesn't appear to be an option for that, if it helps, my laptop has two boot up options, windows vista, or another one whose name I cant remember. It was put there when I got my OS fixed after it died on me, it asks me to choose between them each time

You might have to enter the CMOS to enable the F12 menu.

You might have to enter the CMOS to enable the F12 menu.

Tried this, no option in CMOS. I increased the delay for F10/F12 in the boot options, which was the closest to what I wanted, but still no option to press F12.

The other boot option i can choose from is RAMDISK device options, which leads to system recovery

anything else I can try?

Could you go to Device Manager, right-click on your drive and hit Properties, and post a screenshot?

Edit: Rurik, could you do the same?
