HP laptop ( Vista ) wont connect to HP Printer or Kodak all in one printer

Hello, I am happy to supply whatever tech info to resolve this issue which has defeated me for 6 months. I cannot connect my HP G60 laptop Vista to HP printer or Kodak. Having looked at old threads I am not the only person to run up against this very hard problem. I would prefer not to bin my Laptop and buy an apple mac for compatability issues with 3rd party software. My solution at present is using a stick and transferring to XP sony lap top which is a nightmare as both have different versions of microsoft office. I am new to this forum and apologise in advance if my thread post does not meet the standards required of this collective. many best wishes to all.

thanks theog - I have already down;oaded the drivers direct from the manufacturers website which did not resolve the issue I went into lengthy dialogue directly with HP after i tried their direct drivers I hope this reply does not sound disrespectful it is not meant to be

bit of update - tried again to download direct from Kodak installation failed got another laptop from household with XP on it it loaded the kodakk software and set up perfectly in 5 mins.I am sure it is a problem with vista and the amd configuration with HP set up. under advice i checked relevant services sll to ensure they were set to start and auto eg,
1) Background intelligence transfer service.
2) Cryptographic service.
3) Remote procedure call locator service.
4) print spooler service.
5) windows installer service.

I also believe there may be a USB driver issue as there is no Vista USB printer support

Theog you `prob undertand this issue but i cannot see the wood for the trees when I plug the usb vista detects and loads drivers successfully - though they dont work but tyhe kodak software wont install the drivers successfullly,

it is interesting to note that as soon as the xp laptop ( lenovo) loaded kodak with no nbroblems it was taken out by a cup of tea and its keyboard wont respoind

my vista is 32 bit

i really appreciate the support given thanks

Thanks I have completely uninstalled the Kodak software using revo which I assume also gets rid of the drivers and tried a re-install and its back to its failure to install I have used the uninstall process previously as well, I believe - the drivers just wont install correctly.

Got your PM, stonemason, and it looks you're just about where I was with a Dell laptop with Vista and a Kodak printer last spring.

I finally found something on the Dell website that said to "go to Control Panel and uninstall AMD audio filter drivers." The fact that neither an HP nor a Kodak printer is recognized by Vista leads me to believe you may have a similar issue. We were able to successfully install this Kodak printer on an XP computer with no problems. See if you have the AMD audio filter drivers in your Control Panel.

Hi stonemason,

I'm afraid I can offer no more then what has been offered here or in the link below. Seems to me that Kodak has issues with Vista for some reason.

http://www.vistax64.com/general-discussion/214398-vista-kodak-printer-4.html

Knowing what I know now, I wouldn't recommend a Kodak printer to anyone running Vista or.... Windows 7?

As for the HP, not sure whats going on there as well.

At any rate I'm over at the Windows Seven forums now so I don't come in here too often, which is why it took a minute to respond to your request.

Good luck.

PS, not sure what you mean here....

I also believe there may be a USB driver issue as there is no Vista USB printer support

...because I have two Epson printers running on Vista x64 just fine on USB ports.

I will say that these are older models that Epson still supports under Windows 7 & Vista x64. The printers are an Epson Stylus R800 (2004), and a Stylus 2200 (2002), but Epson obviously sees them as pro or classic models which is why they still support them, even now.

At any rate USB does work.

thanks Dracula and Sygnus as well for your help. Dracula I had read your earlier thnread and went and looked for the AMD Audio filter following the instructions on the Dell Site - I couldnt find the Audio filter. It is possible I didnt seek it correctly. Sygnus when Vista rather than the Kodak software tries to load the drivers after the Kodak is plugged in it tells me there it was unsuccessful due no USB printer support when I click on the USB + sign in device manager printer support is not listed - but I probably have the wrong end of the stick on this. Why is it so hard to connect to a printer - many thanks for the advice I welcome any suggestions !!

And you were as puzzled as I was with the other issue when simply nothing would work. But, in the end, when the amd audio filter USB drivers were uninstalled from the Dell laptop, the Kodak printer did install and work correctly.

I'm loving my 64-bit Win 7 on the system I built last spring - it is driver heaven compared to Vista. It even recognized my 6 year old hp all-in-one printer and installed drivers for it. Amazing.

EDIT: Just saw your post, stonemason. I agree that it just shouldn't be that hard to install a printer. Have you tried to use any other USB devices on this computer such as a wireless mouse or even a USB thumb drive to make sure there aren't any issues with the USB ports themselves?

Again, I think there’s an issue with those AIO Kodak printers and Vista. Why? I can't say. Kodak really should be the one fixing this problem, and not trying to lay it a Microsoft's door. I'm not saying they did that (blamed Microsoft) yet, but...

At any rate seeing at least two problems here with the Kodak AIO printers and listening to the stories about how Kodak hasn't come up with a solution says Kodak is at a loss here and really needs to investigate further.

Perhaps a long written e-mail and these two posts, plus any others dealing with this issue to management can get the ball rolling.

Again, I doubt it's a Vista USB problem because there would be a whole lot of other USB issues posted all over the place if that were the case with Vista; and I personally never had a USB problem at all. In addition to my printers, my keyboard and mouse are USB only, so...

I also don't have any USB problems under Windows 7 which is on the same machine as Vista. I firmly believe it's a Kodak issue, but that's my opinion I suppose.

As for your HP printer issue, not sure what’s happening there? Or did you get that issue fixed?

I couldn't agree more that it's a Kodak issue. I've installed 5 printers on Vista machines including Canon, HP and Kodak. The Kodak printer was the only one with a problem.

I went through the same issues trying to connect my HP printer. I spent days on it with HP support both by phone and online. In the end I admitted defeat. I could post one of the logs of one of the sessions. In the end they said it was a Manufacturer / Operating System fault and washed their hands of it.

Simply I gave up and took to running around the house juggling laptops and memory stix to get stuff printed.

HP sent one of their customer emails and I replied saying why bother if they were not interested in getting an HP laptop to connect to the HP printer. I received a reply saying they would look into it, but they did not follow through.

Dracula - I managed to connect USB memory stick, an O2 Dongle, but not my web cam through the USB ports

Sygnus - your point re it being a Kodak issue I agree with - aside from the fact that I have had problems connecting to the HP printer..........which was never resolved. My HP Laptop wont talk to the HP laser Printer. I possibly have the same issue with a web cam.

So when a few days ago I needed a scanner, I wouldnt touch HP, hence my foray into Kodak.

After my last lengthy international chat support session with Kodak they said clearly to ring Kodak tech support, just tried the Kodak tech printer tel number ( it was not recognised )

Part of my issue is just how much time can I throw at this, One side of me says its a tech problem its solvable, the other side of me says chuck it all in the bin and go Linux - MAC OS.

I will say that I am really impressed with this forum and grateful for all your time in talking with me.

Brief Update - Have spoken with Kodak tech support, they were very positive and helpful. One tel number and straight through to someone who was interested and cared. They have stated they will assist this issue whatever it takes until its resolved.

Well, definitely keep us posted.

I know it's easy to lay the blame at Microsoft's feet, but I don't feel that is the case here. I never liked Vista, but will admit that after SP2, it's a pretty decent operating system. And Windows 7 is just the best thing they've ever done. As I stated earlier, the driver support is second to none. Of course, this time most of the manufacturers were on the ball and had them ready well ahead of the release date.

What you could do in the meantime is hook up the printers to the XP machine. By default printers are shared so if you have a network hookedup/running you could just find the printers on the Vista machine and print from it.

The only issue is you'll still need to have the printer drivers installed on the Vista machine, which is obviously a problem for you now so...

You could also try doing it this way.... http://www.vistax64.com/tutorials/195700-printer-connect-wireless-router.html?filter, but the same rules apply.... you'll need to have the printer drivers installed on the Vista machine, as well as the XP machine.

Good luck.
