Video Drivers Crashing

I made a thread over in the 'graphics cards' section regarding this issue, but could use more help:
http://www.vistax64.com/graphic-cards/288343-video-driver-releated-crashes.html

My video drivers are crashing, seems to be something between vista and my nvidia drivers. The same thing happened on my 8800 i previously had on this computer(which got fixed with the correct drivers), and i have been able to find no hardware issues, made sure all drivers got removed, and have updated every driver i know of. I contacted nvidia who told me to talk to microsoft, and i can't submit a ticket to microsoft technical support because my windows product ID is apparently invalid.

Help?

Start with your comment
i can't submit a ticket to microsoft technical support because my windows product ID is apparently invalid.

You need to sort that out first & then update windows to SP2 plus any others. You will then need to download the Nvidia drivers for your 8800 card: -

How would i sort that out? Reformatting doesn't work. I'm pretty sure it is just an OEM edition, which means that they wouldn't provide support for it.

It's for a GT430(forgot to mention that in the original post), and i already have the windows updates and the newest drivers.

OK, from that post your options & support here is limited.

You need to "Purchase" a valid licence & install a legal operating system (Contact your PC supplier). Once that is complete I am sure your troubles will get sorted out by updates of the system & device drivers.

No, because that's useless. I have a legal operating system, and this is a problem with vista/nvidia... I am 100% sure that it won't get sorted out by updates or device drivers, since those are all already updated.

Stop spouting off useless information, please.

Well,

Since I am unable to confirm or deny what you are stating, I must & do believe you.

So to that end, please accept my appologies if I have up set you. I have been trying to provide advice based on your statements & request but I cannot provide support for an illegal system. Hence my statement for you to obtain a legal version & licence.

Makes sense, sorry if i seem a bit frustrated... it's just annoying to not be able to play any sort of game without it crashing every little bit.

It ought to be a legal copy, I bought it from dell with Vista installed. I honestly have no idea why it says my ID is invalid, but my guess is that dell got an OEM version to save some money and only provides support for two years after.

Any ideas what the issue could be? It definitely seems driver related, since some crash more than others, but i'm not sure what to do about that. I am going to upgrade to windows 7 and see if that resolves the issue at all. If not, i'm guessing it is my motherboard, and i'll have to replace that.

It reports this:
Welcome to Windows!

Because Windows installed on your PC is genuine, enjoy the security, reliability and protection it provides.

So it looks like it validates successfully.

OK, looking good.

Now more information from you about your machine, make, exact model & SP status etc.

When was the last time it worked without crashing etc?
Can you go back to standard components?
What else, if anything, have you changed since new? The more information you can provide the better!

Yep, i'm running 266.58 as my driver.

In event viewer, I find events under Diagnosis-DPS for every time it crashes. The event description is this:
Diagnostic module {7a54f16f-a73a-4258-ba46-a1e998a6aa74} (%WINDIR%\SYSTEM32\DISPCI.DLL) encountered an error while handling scenario {50ce107b-e1a1-4571-91c2-9150755fde09}, instance {a330c01c-8f92-4ceb-989c-30ca03cf1ab4}, original activity ID {00000000-0000-0000-0000-000000000000}. The error code was -2147467259.

And this:
Diagnostic module {7a54f16f-a73a-4258-ba46-a1e998a6aa74} (%WINDIR%\SYSTEM32\DISPCI.DLL) started resolving scenario {50ce107b-e1a1-4571-91c2-9150755fde09}, instance {a330c01c-8f92-4ceb-989c-30ca03cf1ab4}, original activity ID {00000000-0000-0000-0000-000000000000}.

The top one is the more serious crashes.
The last time it worked without crashing is when i replaced my original video card (it died) with the nvidia 8800 and found some drivers that worked.
I can't go back to the 8800, the fan on the card died so i'd have to purchase a new one.
The only thing I changed was my video card and the drivers since these crashes started. The video card and a dvd-rom drive are the only things i have changed on this computer since i got it from dell. It is a pretty standard xps 420.

I'll work on the BSOD instructions now. Thanks for all of your help! :)

I couldn't run the system health report, it said it couldn't find the path specified.

Hi,

If you can, to aid diagnostics, could you please post the crash dump files from your Windows\minidump folder.

You will need to copy them & zip them before posting them. OK?

I tried upgrading to windows 7, and still have the same issue. :-/

Think it could be my motherboard or power supply?

It definitely is crashing less, at least.
