HP Deskjet 1050A J410 series will not print

Hi there I am having trouble getting my new printer to print. Ive just installed it, prints a test page ok, but will not let me print anything else.

Has anybody got any ideas what I need to do I tried it with my old Windows XP computer and it works fine?

Should be an easy solution. Go to the HP site and download the most current driver. The fact that you can print a test page shows that the problem is with the connection between Vista and the computer.

Thanks for the reply, I have un-installed and installed software a few times but still no change.I have downloaded drivers from HP Website but still will not print.

I was told by HP to Add Local Printer and use generic driver 990c but this also failed.

Try shutting your system down then unplug all printer connections.
Reboot your system and then start plugging your printer connections back in.
By doing this it will let your OS find your printer and should be good to go.
It worked for me and my old HP deskjet printer.

Uninstall everything but the printer, modem and mouse. Then try the alternative method. Go to search and type add a printer and try to install.
If that does not work, try, with all uninstalled, going to the website, again.
If it does not work, go to search type devices and printers, do you see your printer?
If you see your printer, uninstall the driver, make sure that you do not see your printer, anymore. Keep everything uninstalled. Turn printer on. Turn off computer. Now boot with computer on.

Edit: Before any of the above, after driver installation, boot the computer, leave the printer on and plugged in and see how it goes. Have patience, we will get this to work.

If you are wired, try all the above in a different port.

If nothing works, try using an XP driver, save it to your desktop and right click on it, and use compatiblity mode.

What ever you try make sure that the old driver is completly uninstalled first, do that now. Make sure the picture is not shown in printers and devices.
Then plug in printer, turn on, turn off computer and boot

Now that I think about it, all the advice from me and Howling, again. This time, before each attempt make sure that the driver is completely remove. Make sure it does not show in Devices and Printers.

I just looked at my printer's and devices and show my HP deskjet 6122 as 990c.
What I did was uninstall the the 6122 rebooted and then went in an added the 990c.
then:

Try shutting your system down then unplug all printer connections.
Reboot your system and then start plugging your printer connections back in.
By doing this it will let your OS find your printer and should be good to go.

We will find a fix for your problem just be patient!

Please be sure that you have removed all traces of the prior(s) drivers before attempting to install another.

Ok I have started again I have reinstalled software/drivers off Cd and connected printer.

I went to printer properties and tried to print test page, It failed.

I then went to printer software page and clicked on customise your printer and had this error.

I also had a look in device manager I can see the scanner listed but shouldnt there be printers in there?

How can they say the printer is compatable with Vista when it doesnt recognise the drivers. I can plug it into my old Xp and it works.

For printer, you have to go to Devices and Printers. not Device Manger.
