Uninstall everything but the printer, modem and mouse. Then try the alternative method. Go to search and type add a printer and try to install.
If that does not work, try, with all uninstalled, going to the website, again.
If it does not work, go to search type devices and printers, do you see your printer?
If you see your printer, uninstall the driver, make sure that you do not see your printer, anymore. Keep everything uninstalled. Turn printer on. Turn off computer. Now boot with computer on.

Edit: Before any of the above, after driver installation, boot the computer, leave the printer on and plugged in and see how it goes. Have patience, we will get this to work.
If you are wired, try all the above in a different port.
If nothing works, try using an XP driver, save it to your desktop and right click on it, and use compatiblity mode.

What ever you try make sure that the old driver is completly uninstalled first, do that now. Make sure the picture is not shown in printers and devices.
Then plug in printer, turn on, turn off computer and boot
Now that I think about it, all the advice from me and Howling, again. This time, before each attempt make sure that the driver is completely remove. Make sure it does not show in Devices and Printers.
