Fear 2 is already out...

Anybody getting scare out of their minds yet? I know we got a Demo thread already but I want to know how the game runs as I am still waiting for my case to come in and I don't want to install it on my old case if I decide to purchase it.

Re: Fear 2 is already out...

The demo is already played out MrNeeds, I was wondering if someone is already playing the game to see if it runs better than the demo or not... even though the demo ran very smooth for me.

I guess I am just salivating over the idea of what else the game brings.

I got it, runs just as well as the demo to me, that is no hiccups (yet). Though I only played like 15 minutes before I had errands to run. Hope to get a few hours in later as I don't have to work tomorrow

As a side note, the way the demo starts out is not the way the full version starts. The other thing is that it is a steam based game - meaning steam gets installed with the game - thus no steam, no install - Even if you have the retail version, which I do.

sygnus21, can you explain the steam bit for me? Is the Steam part much like the DRM with FC2?

Re: Fear 2 is already out...

Steam is like a digital distribution program. Once you load the program you can purchase other games thru a steam account. Sort of like EA's download manager. Don't quote me on this but I believe Valve created the program and it was distributed with Half-Life 2, which is where I got it. It has grown to the point that where it has become a digital distribution of games, and you can even purchase non-valve games. You can even add games to the program so that they too become part of your steam account, which is nice because you can install the program on any computer and once you log into your account, your game files will be downloaded which allows access to all your games, including your save points. Some games require Steam to be loaded to activate and play the game. The only steam based games I own, that is steam is required, is the Half-Life 2 series and now, FEAR 2.

You can read about Steam here - What is Steam

You're right Sygnus, it is Valves digital distribution software, and I find it excellent.

The best thing about it is it has no DRM within the games, even if the same game you buy on Steam has DRM with the retail version, the Steam version won't, which means you can install it as many times as you want as the game file are linked with your account.

Yeah, that's another good point - though the part about the limited number of game (re)installs doesn’t really bother me as I tend to do OS reinstalls only as a last resort… and even then, I'm trying to find a way around it. As such my OS’s are usually up and running for long periods of time. My last XP machine ran for about two years before I did an OS reinstall, but that’s me.

Re: Fear 2 is already out...

That doesn't sound bad at all, my only problem is that at home I have a 1.5 MB DSL line that runs just slightly faster than dial-up so having this might not be a good idea. I am trying to switch to Comcast cable but god only knows when that will be.

Anyways, glad the game runs good, I am going to go to my friend's house tonight and give the ole test

Re: Fear 2 is already out...

Well yea, the downside to Steam is if you have a slow Internet connection, it takes an age to download some games
