Anybody getting scare out of their minds yet? I know we got a Demo thread already but I want to know how the game runs as I am still waiting for my case to come in and I don't want to install it on my old case if I decide to purchase it. ;)

The demo is already played out MrNeeds, I was wondering if someone is already playing the game to see if it runs better than the demo or not... even though the demo ran very smooth for me. ;)

I guess I am just salivating over the idea of what else the game brings.

I got it, runs just as well as the demo to me, that is no hiccups (yet). Though I only played like 15 minutes before I had errands to run. Hope to get a few hours in later as I don't have to work tomorrow :)

As a side note, the way the demo starts out is not the way the full version starts. The other thing is that it is a steam based game - meaning steam gets installed with the game - thus no steam, no install - Even if you have the retail version, which I do.

sygnus21, can you explain the steam bit for me? Is the Steam part much like the DRM with FC2?

Steam is like a digital distribution program. Once you load the program you can purchase other games thru a steam account. Sort of like EA's download manager. Don't quote me on this but I believe Valve created the program and it was distributed with Half-Life 2, which is where I got it. It has grown to the point that where it has become a digital distribution of games, and you can even purchase non-valve games. You can even add games to the program so that they too become part of your steam account, which is nice because you can install the program on any computer and once you log into your account, your game files will be downloaded which allows access to all your games, including your save points. Some games require Steam to be loaded to activate and play the game. The only steam based games I own, that is steam is required, is the Half-Life 2 series and now, FEAR 2.

You can read about Steam here - What is Steam

You're right Sygnus, it is Valves digital distribution software, and I find it excellent.

The best thing about it is it has no DRM within the games, even if the same game you buy on Steam has DRM with the retail version, the Steam version won't, which means you can install it as many times as you want as the game file are linked with your account.

Yeah, that's another good point - though the part about the limited number of game (re)installs doesn’t really bother me as I tend to do OS reinstalls only as a last resort… and even then, I'm trying to find a way around it. As such my OS’s are usually up and running for long periods of time. My last XP machine ran for about two years before I did an OS reinstall, but that’s me.

That doesn't sound bad at all, my only problem is that at home I have a 1.5 MB DSL line that runs just slightly faster than dial-up :( so having this might not be a good idea. I am trying to switch to Comcast cable but god only knows when that will be.

Anyways, glad the game runs good, I am going to go to my friend's house tonight and give the ole test ;)

This game is looking good thus far, though I’m halfway through level 3. The graphics are nice and I have everything set to high or turned on, even shadows, which in the original FEAR, I turned off because I got, and still get massive slowdowns with them turned on. FEAR 2 runs smooth with everything on. You can check my system specs for comparisons to what you might expect from the game’s performance on your system.

Some people are crying about the lack of a manual save system, but the game play is so immersive and smooth, and save auto save points so plentiful, that I don't miss having a manual save system. However you will definitely know when you hit a auto save point because the game will lag/stutter at those points, but that's the only place where the game stutters, but as I said earlier, the game runs smooth, barring the auto save points.

I'm a big FEAR fan, so it was natural that I got this game. No regrets thus far :)

No I’m off to play some more :p

Ahhhhh, so that's what I felt in the Demo from time to time... I couldn't put my finger on it and I thought it was caused by heat.

I have loved all the Fear games, although, I am not a big fan of Horror or being scared crapless and I could easily do away with those stupid scenes but, I have learn to just go with the flow on those parts and turn the volume completely OFF! :o ;) :D

Well, I am having the same issue I had with the demo, the bluetooth headsets don't work with the game, rather, the game does not seem to be cooperating with it because I have sound with everything else.

Dammit, we played the 1st interval w/o sound and it sucks. I hope Google gives me an answer.

Well, what do you know, updating my onboard HD realtek drivers seem to do the job. I had the 214 drivers and luckily for me, realtek had come out with the 215 so, again... that did it.

Game's running a little hot, I am still having some jumping issues with the mouse but that's probably because is wireless, I am hoping to find out more once I get my new Case, which, for all intent and purposes, it should run a lot cooler. If that doesn't do it, I think I am going to be forced to change my mouse to a wired one.

Also, letting the game dictate my settings, it puts me at 900 x 600 Res (it could be because of it being a port to pc game). I did set it manually to 1680 x 1050 and the rest is set to Max (as per game best settings).

The side button on my Logitech G7 doesn't want to work no matter what I do to it, the others are set on my Control Panel Custom Setup and work perfectly, I am baffled on that side button though. Other games work except this one.

I am hating those pesky mutants that crawl at super speed and I think I am stuck at the cat walks part where you need to get out of the building.
