vista only sees 2 gig but bios sees 4 gig

My vista only sees 2 gig out of 4 gig installed. Bios sees 2 gig and diagnostic memory tool sees no problem.

Any suggestion?

Thanks in Advance!

The title of your post says the BIOS sees 4GIG, but the text of your post says it only sees 2 gig. So which is it?

Either way, how many RAM module does your motherboard support (2 or 4)? And what size memory modules to you have installed? If you have 2 x 2GB modules, then it is possible that your motherboard cannot make use of 2GB modules. To get the full 4GB like you want, you'll have to install 4 x 1GB modules.

I remember my old Althlon XP computer (Jade) had 4 modules, but if the first 2 had 1GB modules installed, then the other two would only work with 512MB modules, giving a maximum total of 3GB.

You might have a similar issue here...

Re: vista only sees 2 gig but bios sees 4 gig

if vista sees only 2 GB and BIOS sees only 2 GB then they are in agreement - unless you meant BIOS sees 4 GB....

In which case I'd suggest you run some memory diagnostics on each chip independently....

Also, what does CPU-Z say?

EDIT - added the following

Doh! We crossposted - sorry dzom

Re: vista only sees 2 gig but bios sees 4 gig

It is a memory setting in your BIOS. Find the memory hole setting.

Re: vista only sees 2 gig but bios sees 4 gig

Hi,

According to the manual for your motherboard, there is no mention of 'memory hole'. However, on the main BIOS screen there are a couple of entries 'Installed Memory' and 'Usable Memory' (see page 78). What are the amounts of memory showing here? I enclose links both for the manual and also to the main forum for your motherboard. There seem to be quite a few posts on this forum regarding RAM issues. You could try asking your question there - perhaps a forum member may be able to assist you or at least point you in the right direction.
