OK, no offense, but perhaps I am missing something? The icons on the left hand side of your pic look like smaller versions of the icons in the main part of the window....
Or are you talking about the 'triangle' icons to the *left* of the folder icons, which indicate the presence of sub-folders and that you can click on to expand the items in the tree?

Weird- I am on Vista Ultimate x64 without any updates yet (because I want to finish installing everything , a task that is not close to being one yet) but I just checked *my* folders and the same 4 folders are missing those internal icons....

Have a look at your desktop.ini, if the folder does not act as it should then there is maybe a cache problem, but AMHO they all look the same in Vistas.
Another option would be to modify the desktop.ini but you have to know exactly what's you are doing as these folders are purely virtuals.
