I think it is supposed to be like that....I searched for images all over the net, and most of them only show an extra icon in the Download folder as opposed to the plain green folder. I suspect mine got corrupted when I moved my Download folder to a new location and then messed with the desktop.ini file in there, but it is not a big loss - the large icon in Windows Explorer is correct, and I don't use Explorer anyway, so it is not a big concern to me.

Then again, seeing the other screen shots you posted makes me rethink...

Not sure why but perhaps you have moved your folder as I have? That may be accounting for it....as I see you have 2 Desktop folders :P

I moved all of the folders in the users to a different partition just incase I need to format my C drive I won't loose my documents and other userful stuff. I tried installing software to my D partition but some software wouldn't install on the D drive. I partitioned my hard dive " C:windows,D:applications,E:Files " So I moved all the folders that were in C:username to E partition.

Yeah, I think you and I have to live with the missing stuff - I have mine moved too, and have had them moved since XP - I still move my special folders first thing in Vista after a new install - it makes things easier.

thank you . You wouldn't happen to know of a software that will move your software from C:PROGRAM FILES to D:PROGRAM FILES. I'm trying to have C: drive just be WINDOWS VISTA? I know there were software like that for XP.

It will take you less time and problems by removing the program then reinstall in your D partition.

It didn't allow me to install it on my D partition . Thats why its in my C drive . I made a folder in my D partition called " Program Files " so it reads as " D:Program Files " so I changed the C to a D and it didn't allow me to install it only on the C drive.

Installing apps to a different directory / drive is pretty straight forward - I do it all the time, installing games to a different partition, where they are not restricted by Vista's locked down permissions one the Program Files directory. You'll need to choose 'advance' or 'custom' installation that allows you to change the actual installation path, and what I usually do is just edit the path manually, replacing C with D.

Thats what I was doing and it didn't let me install my Lexmark x8350 printer, Microsoft Intellipoint Mouse, Norton Anti-virus 2008, and others. I wanted to change it from the registry like you can do with XP but when I did that my games and other software that came prebuilt in Vista didn't work. I couldn't even get back to the registry I had to fix it from SAFE MODE.

Ummm, yeah, Vista doesn't like you doing that - *changing* the location of Program Files is a nono - it is considered a fixed location and you cannot change it. If you use that tool that I referenced, then you'll understand.

However, I *just* (as in finished an hour ago) did a complete reinstall of Vista Ultimate x64 and those same four folders have the plain icons in the folder tree. There is nothing wrong with the way they are displaying.

Thats funny cause on my mom's vista laptop which is a home premium it shows little icons inside the folders like on the middle.
