    Why is vista so problematic?

i WOULD JUST LIKE TO KNOW WHY EVERYTHING I TRY TO DO IN VISTA REQUIRES A PATCH, A FIX, NEW SOFTWARE, HOURS OF RESEARCH? REALLY, WHY? XP WORKED. SORRY I EVER UPGRADED.
IS THERE A REALY GOOD BAR NEXT TO MICROSOFT CORP? ARE THEY ALL ON PHARMACEUTICALS? WHAT?
Did get my Epson scanner working, don't think I could repeat that if I tried. Lexar card reader? Nope. Oh. not just the 2 gig limit issue, it will read smaller cards but just don't try to download to them. Keep saying it's write protected, NOT!
Vista did not like SATA drives, did not like Creative 2ZS enhancements, totally crashed the system yrying to upgrade to Vista. So far, in short, it's a piece of crap.
Please send this to Bill Gates.

Thanks for the reply. Sorry if my post was inappropriate. I guess my frustration is showing. I don't entirely agree with the "not microsofts fault" Statement. My equipment is relatively new and Things worked just fine on XP. So why would Microsoft release an OS with so many conflicts? Especially knowing that they had a user base out there with newer equipment, but that has now become "legacy" equipment I suppose? I've spent quite a bit of time researching and downloading drivers etc. I guess I expected an easier transition with less work on getting things to run smoothly. Microsoft want you to buy their latest greatest but don't really talk about the conflicts and the obsolence of programs and hardware it creates.
Anyway, I'll stick to specific issues from here on if that's ok?

I understand your frustation, believe me I do but, I do not believe this forum is own by Microsoft so taking it out on the people that may want to help you is, well, like shooting yourself in the foot, wouldn't it?

The folks at this forum are very helpful, believe you me, I have asked a thousand questions here and they all have been answered to the best of their abilities.

Now, why don't you try to calmly tell us what you are experiencing and just perhaps, your issues will go away.

Re: Why is vista so problematic?

Sure, and thanks! I've managed to solve most issues with help from a buddy who works in IT and it took him a week of tweeking to get Vista to like SATA drives!
    Issues right now:
    1) Lexar multi card reader. Does not read cards 2 GB and up, had read that. tested it, sure enough, no go but did read smaller cards. Could live with that, camera downloads higher cards just fine. BUT it seems you cannot transfer pictures TO any size card in the reader. It comes up with a message "card is write protected" even when not. Options are "try again" or "cancel". Believe it or not, if you hit try again rapidly and often a window pops up showing that the picture is being copied to the USB device, the card in the reader, but if you check after in explorer, it has not been. You get "folder empty". Lexar does not have, or does not think new drivers are needed. I've e-mailed them and we'll see if they have a response.

The other issue that pooped up was a conflict with vista DVD maker and an Indeo Codec. Probably with regards to codec used by my Canon S3is in movie clips. I have'nt looked further into this as yet and hopefully Adobe Premier Elements will handle this and I won't have to worry about Windows DVD Maker.
Games- weell I'm not big into into them. Would like to get IL2 Forgotten Battles running, and a few others. Solutions are probably online, just need time to get to it.
All that said, I like the Vista interface, if I can just get things going all will be well with the world! So, thank you all for your understanding on these issues. Any suggestions greatly appreciated.

Wow you had a lot of troubles!

What are your system specs? It could be that the mobo just doesn't like vista, some do that. See the "My System Specs" down at the bottom of every post? Go into your UserCP to fill that out so everyone can see your hardware.

Ok. So. It sounds like it could be a hardware problem, though it might also be a bad install.
The system specs can tell us some of this, and one of the boards or something might have a Vista issue.
    Is all your equipment new?

As for the Lexar part, I had nothing but trouble with their products (though I did only have two). This could be the issue, because if the card reader is not compatible with Vista, then that might cause problems with the rest of it.

Do you have a spare HDD? I would recommend putting a fresh install of Vista on that, and unplug the other drive. Before doing that, unplug the old HDD and ALL of your components that are NOT ABSOLUTELY necessary for your PC to run. (I.E. leave the PSU and mobo, one DVD drive, and the HDD) Run the install with this, and see if it works well. If it doesnt, then it is a problem with one of your main components. If it works (and I think it will) then it is a problem with another piece of hardware.

Let us know what you try and how it works. It is a lot of work I know, but its worth it to get it working well.

I know what you mean. Vista is much harder to use than XP. I bought a new laptop with Vista Home Premium & still can’t get Microsoft Baseline Security Analyzer 2.1 to work, Vista isn’t even user friendly with MS programs & I’ve never had to do so many left mouse clicks with any other MS OS’s.

Since the day vista came out it has been a pain in the a$$. The Vista moderators are all mostly sycophants who feel it's their responsibility to defend Microsoft. Their modus operandi is to turn all criticism back on the user. Ex - "you should learn what you're talking about", "that's not microsoft's fault", "you shouldn't use it if you are too lazy to learn", etc. - Just once I'd like to see one of them stop drinking that microsoft Kool Aid and admit that Vista is a sloppy, poorly put together product.

My Novice experience with MS OS’s is, 98se was good & stable but lacking the neat stuff, ME had the neat stuff but unstable & crashed all the time or constant restarts were necessary to get it to work, XP was great & now for me Vista acts more like ME & I have to restart at least every two days to get it working again.

I read a post from a savvy XP user about two months ago that said, “Don’t upgrade to Vista”. He also said something like, Win 7 is coming out so soon & that M$ will be making Billions from it especially if it gets good reviews!!!
M$ will stop supporting XP & all computers come with Vista now but M$ still sells a new XP install, “not upgrade” I found that out when I had a pirated XP Pro on a new laptop that I bought here in the Philippines, WGA wouldn’t pass & M$ gave me the options to buy a new XP install.
