I can't turn off my laptop

Hello Everyone

I m using vista x64 home premium and when i try to shut down my computer it looks like it is turning off then it starts windows again. Anyone had the same problem or know what to do ?

The settings to look for in each computer bios are different, but go into your computer BIOS and check the power settings. Look for something about "ACPI", "Wakup Events" or "Power Status After Power Off".

It may be that those settings are turning the computer back on again after the shutdown command is given on the hardware level...

Are you using the "Shut Down" button on the Start Orb?

And now this is important. What color is that "Shut Down" button? Orange or Red? If it is orange, then you are not shutting down your computer, you're putting into Sleep Mode, and it is likely that your hardware is failing to enter sleep mode, thus explaing the apparent restarts.

To change the button to actually shut it down, go into Control Panel, System and Maintenance, Power Options. Then customize your chosen power plan, and change the "Start Menu Power Button and Lid" buttons...

I ve check it at power options nothing wrong there

i cant control bios because when i get in the bios by pressing f2 i cant find any options about power

I m using a laptop with lan cable plugged in maybe its because of that ?

What is the make and model number of your laptop? Have you checked for Wake On Lan?

This is also a problem with USB devices, mainly keyboards and mice. I found that if I tried to put my machine to sleep, it would go through the motions, then immediately wake back up. I discovered that setting the keyboard and mouse to not wake up the computer in the device manager was the solution.
Just thought you'd like to know.

First of all, please do not bump your posts as it is against Forum Rules.

I think that it could possibly be a peripheral causing the problem. Disconnect ALL peripherals, including the Internet and turn the wireless function OFF. Try shutting down. If successful, add peripherals one at a time. Start with keyboard, then mouse, then Internet. Test between each addition. If the problem returns, disconnect the last peripheral added and try again. Please let us know how you get on.

Making an empassioned plea to the devine won't get you much help, and neither will giving almost no feedback on the possibles solutions that have been previously suggested.

Have you at all attempted any of the solutions suggested?

If what I've mentioned before has not helped, try also what Dwarf said in his post.

yes i tried it i think its because of lan cable i unchecked allow this device wake to computer from device manager/Modems/HDaudio soft data fax modem smartCP

and now it seems fixed
