Can't Delete Old Vista Partition / Info

Here's what I've run into. Installed Vista Ultimate x64 on my harddrive and ran into a problem with my motherboard (Intel DP45SG). End result was that I could not boot my original installaton of Vista. BIOS related.

Tried all of the recovery options and none of them worked. Bit the bullet and reinstalled Vista fresh. Unfortunately I did not see the option to format the old info when I did this. This caused the old OS to be moved to it's own partition on my harddrive.

This old info on it's partition is only visible on Paragon Partition Manager 9 and not in Vista's Disk Management. Vista shows my harddrive as 936 GB instead of 1,000GB. I do not seem to have any way of accessing this partition or of getting rid of it. Paragon PM shows the partition as being unformated. When I try to format it or delete it with Paragon PM I get a message that this can only be done with the Recovery CD. This partition does not show up in the Recovery CD when it's run.

Any help would be appreciated. I don't want to give up 70gp of hard drive room just the hell of it!!

Hi svandewark, welcome to the forum.

When you install fresh copy of vista on a same partition with out formatting, installation would create "windows.old" folder under c:\ drive, in case if you want to retrieve data from your old/previous OS.
you can remove it by running Disk Cleanup

I would appreciate if you could post the screen shot of "Computer" "Disk Management" and "Paragon Partition Manager"

Let us know

Hi sandevik,

Please post a jpeg screenshot as Kernel asked - both of Vista Disk Management and the Paragon window.

I have PM9 too.

To post a screenshot, click the Go Advanced button at the bottom of this page and follow step 10 onward of this tutorial

http://www.vistax64.com/tutorials/148532-how-use-snipping-tool-vista.html

You would expect that kind of size discrepancy due to way HD manufacturers measure their capacity - factors of 1,000 as opposed to the Windows binary measurements of 1024.

Hope it helps

Good try guys but it didn't work. When I ran Disk Cleanup I had about 20GB of stuff to get rid of but that partition is still there. I'm currently workng from my laptop, hooked to the internet while loading programs on my desktop, not hooked to the internet. Once I get all of the drivers installed I will try posted a couple of screenshots.

In PM9 that partition is an orange color and is shown us "Not Formatted". When I try to format it to NTFS I get this error message:

Operation Failed

The restart operation, that has been requested now, cannot be performed under
this 64-bit edition of Windows. Please use Recovery CD for this purpose.

I use Windows Vista Ultimate Service Pack 1 - No updates yet - not hooked to internet yet.

Does it give the size of the partition?

Also, where is it, on the left , or right of the main partition?

It is on the right hand side of the main partition and it is 73GB!

It does not show up in Disk Management. The size of the drive in Disk Managment is shown as 934BG.

Hi,

May be a misread by the installed version of PM9, see if you can uninstall it, Reboot and ensure Paragon folder in Program Files(x86) has gone - if not, delete it, then reinstall PM9.

934gb seems about right if the manufacturer claims it's 1000gb.

Hope it helps
