vista ultimate 32bit and ultimate 64bit

hi..

after searching for hours on google on this website i did find some threads about the whole 32bit vs ultimate 64bit and one thread will say you should update the other says no stay away from it..

I cant make my mind up:/ so i thoguht maybe with my lap top specs it might help give a bettr idea of if i should?

so i bought ultimate vista with both 32 and 64 bit i did install 32bit because i was stupid and did not look at both cds just wonderd why it had 2 cds, so after i realised by then i have installed everything with 32bit and have the lap top the way i like it... so is it really worth formatting re installing everything i backed up 64bit versions of drivers and nod32..etc not sure if diskeeper works with 64bit or tune up utilities those where two programs i payed for..

but also my lap top i am not sure if its good enough to have a good experience on the 64bit, i know it can install it but not sure if it will make a difference?

i have HP Pavilion dv5-1111ea Entertainment Notebook PC

Re: vista ultimate 32bit and ultimate 64bit

Hello Paliometoxo,

I say that if you have 64-bit drivers available for all of your devices and none of your programs have issues with 64-bit Vista, then I would use the 64-bit Vista. This way your computer will use the full 4 GB of RAM instead of just up to 3.2 GB of it also.

It's really up to you though, but the article in this post can help show the differences between 32-bit and 64-bit to help you decide.

64-bit: More than just the RAM

Hope this helps,
Shawn

Re: vista ultimate 32bit and ultimate 64bit

Found this on their website saying that Diskeeper 2009 supports both 32-bit and 64-bit Vista. Looks like your good to go if you wanted to.

Re: vista ultimate 32bit and ultimate 64bit

thanks, i decided to go for it and my lap top says to me, to continue installing with this cd key you must chose a partition with a genuine copy of windows on.. but it is genuine copy of windows i am using now i dont understand... do i need to format first? i mean i am using the same ultimate 32bit cd that came with the 64bit cd.

i did not press format now just incase

Re: vista ultimate 32bit and ultimate 64bit

Yeah, you will need to use a 64-bit Vista installation disk for this, and you will need to also format the hard drive during installation when going to a 64-bit Vista from a 32-bit Vista (or the other way around).

Re: vista ultimate 32bit and ultimate 64bit

its weird because the upgrade was disabled so i chose format, and then when it asks me to chose which drive to install c: or recovery D: i chose C: but it wont let me press next it has a error on the bottom saying "to continue installing with this cd key you must chose a partition with a genuine copy of windows on" so i click advanced options and it has a option to format, the new button is disabled, so i figure maybe i could press the format option and then it will accept 64bit, but what if i format and i get the same message and waisted a format.. but i figure since it wont have a os it wont tell me about installing on a partition with genuine windows,,.. even though my windows is very much legit.

Re: vista ultimate 32bit and ultimate 64bit

If you have a upgrade 64-bit Vista installation DVD instead of a full version, then you would want to follow this tutorial instead to install it.
