Hi.

There are a few folders on Vista that can't be accessed.

One for example is the one shown in the screenshot:

Can someone of you guys please tell me what needs to be done in order to access these folders?

Thanks in advance,

If you need app data folder, try the one under your user name. I don't know but that may be a protected system file. Go into folder options and uncheck "hide protected system files". maybe that will do it. While you're in there check the "show hidden files" and access app data under your own user name. Good luck.

.......thanks for your reply.

I did all this before I posted here.

Even tried to give full access under properties and security of that folder but the changes can't be applied because access is denied.

It isn't just this folder, there are a few which can't be accssed like these for example:

C:\Users\MyName\Application Data

C:\Users\MyName\Local Settings

It always says:

Data is not Accessible

And like in the screenshot on top of the popup window it says:

Location is not available.

The only thing I can think of is that these folders are there for people who upgraded from XP because these folders been present in XP and not been used by Vista anymore as far as I know.

Anyway, I would like to be sure about it.

Thanks again.......

Some 'folders' are actually junctions used for backwards compatability for applications. They are a form of pointer used to point to real folders.

And users can't navigate through them; you just get access denied errors.

.......ok, I kinda get it.

But it's still pi..ing me off that I don't have access to all the folders on my own rig.......

This same thing bothered me until I found out what you were told that they were junction points. I found my files are accesable but under Vista's nameing style. That is My Documents got transfered to Documents as did most other MY something files. Look for them that way. I believe all of mine are there but with slightly different names and under different folders sometimes.
