screen saver

I use my pictures as a screen saver, but it won't ever turn off, I don't want it to sleep because it takes to long to boot up again, any other suggestions? I have Vista. I didn't have this problem with windows xp. I want into prefrences and just told it when to stop the screen saver.

My Computer

I don't really understand what it is you want, I have my Pictures folder as the Screen Saver and it is set to activate after 10 mins of the computer being idle all other power savings are set to Never, whenever I want to use the computer again it's just a question of moving the mouse and the monitor is back to what it was either the desktop or if I left a program or forum open it would be back to that.

I want exactly what you said - mine is a Vista which might be different but I did exactly what you did, and it still doesn't work. Do you have XP or Vista? Mine worked fine on XP

My Computer

It shows under my Avatar and in my System Specs that I have Vista Home Premium SP2 x32bit

Right click an empty space on the desktop and then click on Personalization then click on the Screen Saver, in the Window that comes up have it show Photos then in the Wait box put however many minutes you want before it comes on, I have it set for 10 minutes, leave the box empty beside the On Resume display the login screen. You can then click on the lick at the bottom link Change Power Settings and in the Window that comes up on the left side click on the link for when to Choose when to turn off the display and make sure both the choices are never, the same if the take the bottom link about putting the computer to sleep.

Hope you can follow that, if you want anything explaining more just ask but I think that should solve your problems that is how mine is set and it works ;)

I have Windows Live Photo Gallery

When you bring up the Screen Saver window click on the settings button next to where it says Photo's in the window that comes up I have a tick in the bottom choice use photo's and videos from C:\Users\Joan\Pictures

There is a Browse button you can use to point it to the right place, they are set at Random and Medium for the speed.

Try that and see if it works.

Where do you store all your photo's ?

When you click on the Start Orb and look in the right hand side of the column you have your picture then under that you have folders listed as Your name, Documents, Pictures, Music, Games etc:

When setting up the Screen Saver I pointed it to the Pictures folder which is where all my photo's are stored.

Oh and no I don't hate Vista, in fact I love it but then I've liked all version since my first which was Windows 98, and I'm not some whizz kid that takes all this in their stride but a pensioner who has learnt as I go along. ;)

I am giving it a try now - thanks. I do hate Vista - do you? I much preferred windows 98. Lot more people friendly.

Hello Patti Chati,
I would suggest that the majority of the members at this forum are very friendly & eager to be of help. Incidentally most of us have a positive attitude towards Vista too.

I am so sorry, this problem is only with Vista. When I had Windows XP I didin't have this, so it would be a Vista situation.
You have been so sweet to help me though. You have a good day and week.
Thanks.

Thanks for posting back.
A lot of us had "glitches" at times with every OS we used.
Have patience, [with yourself as well as Vista] ask for help when needed, keep plugging away & eventually you may begin to realise Vista's many good points too. Good luck.;)

I don't think it is a problem with Vista as I have Vista and don't have the problem you seem to be having.

Did you point the Browse button to your Pictures folder ?

Don't forget we are here to help and with patience and our help I'm sure we'll have your Screen Saver working as you want it to. ;)

I do have Pictures on the right hand side gray area and the photo gallery on the left. When it goes to browse, it doesn't give me the option of pictures it just goes to gallery. I am sure that is where the problem lies, just don't know how to get rid of it.

"Pictures" & "Photo Gallery" are inter-related.

;you know where you can choose what you want as a screen saver it has both photos and then photo gallery. In the photos I have about 20 pictures and gallery aabout 200. It works fine with the 20 photos, but not with the 200 gallery?'
Right now I have it on one of theirs called ribbons and it works fine!!!!

Have you checked through Vista Tutorials ?[ top of page ]
There are a few tutorials there headed 'screensaver' that may hold a clue to your problem. Note that at the end of the tutorial is a question / answer section where the experts usually solve any problem that one has.
