Werid Problem with new vista 64bit install

Ok, I've been googling and googling and reading around the forums and have tried several things before posting.. I had a Vista 32bit, and made the choice I wanted to goto 64bit. I got a new motherboard an Intel DP45SG running a quad core, i think 9550, but I dont have the exact specs in front of me. Then i am running four ddr3 corsair ram chips 1gb. I have two wd drives, don't rember the models off hand either. I have replaced the cables to the drives, ran just the drive by itself. I had a Nvidia Gefore 9600gt, but I replaced it with a ATI 4850 1gb ddr2 card. I am having the system take forever to run applications and do file copies. I opened up outlook 2007 and it took literally 15mins for it to open the mail box. Itunes takes about 20mins to open up. I can barely even use world of warcraft online half the time. I tried to copy files from the old hard drive to the new hard drive, they copied at 12kb/sec. Intel had a bios upgrade and I did that, I downloaded every driver possible. I turned off Index searching, Im to the point of going, is it the proc, memory, hard drives or all three. or heck the psu. Im totally lost as to what needs to be done to get this thing working. From what I can tell its only the file copies and the 32bit applications. Also, current windows updates, at SP2 atm.

Sorry for the rambling, but im trying to get as much info as possible.

thanks

try removing some of the ram chips and see what happens then. Could possible be bad ram chip causing these problems. Try just using 1 1gb stick, then 2 and alternate them out, and if it gets better get a memtester and run it on each stick to figure out the bad one and replace it.

I'll try that. I did use a ubuntu cd to test the memory with its memchecker on it and ran the vista memchecker. Suprislingly the rating system gives the system a 5.4 rating.

Thanks

i don't know much at all about the intel motherboards and ddr3, but from what i've read on the subject, maybe you need to remove 1 of the sticks of ram and only have 3 slots populated. i have read that some of the intel boards are finicky with certain types of ram and the slots need to be populated in a certain way or the system might be unstable, at least, or not even post, at worst.

I tried just using one slot of the ram, and no go. same issue still there.. What brand ram do you guys recommend? Maybe i should just pick up two sticks of 2GB ram chips. I was thinking of crucial? Might be worth a shot. no idea.

thanks,

I run kingston in one machine, crucial in another. Either one of those, I found reliable, plus they have lifetime warranty on them, and corsair is another good brand. All have the same warranty and honor them really well.

I was digging around in my bios and studying my ram settings.. the bios says 7-7-7-20 @ 1066.. the ram chip itself says 9-9-9-24 1333MhZ.. COuld this be the problem?

My Computer

did u run memtester on each indivual stick of ram yet?? Only way I'd send them is if they tested bad for you. It could be a problem, but then again it might be all ur mobo can handle, how many sticks did you have in when it came back with those timing's for your ram?

The timings came from the bios.. which i find interesting.. Since the FSB should be 1333, not 1066, but i cant force it any higher. the CPU says it should handle the 1333 just fine and the board says it supports 1333.. So Im guessing it is the ram chips themselfs arent compatiable with this board for whatever reason.. Im thinking of just biting the bullet and getting one stick of Crucial 2GB to see if the bios changs to what the chip states..

thanks

Did you format the hard drive and install 64-bit Vista fresh? If the RAM doesn't work then the motherboard is probably at fault.

Fresh install, new motherboard. RMA'd the previous 38BT back to intel and ordered this newer one. Ive been reading on the Corsair forums that there is some known issues with this ram and board.. So we'll see what happens

Hope you get everything worked out, keep us informed on what ya find out. Thanks!

I ordered some crucial ram yesterday. and after my email to Corsair, amazingly enough, the ram that im using for my board has disappeared from there compability list. So i think im on the correct path with replacing this ram.

thanks

Well that was a major FLOP.. I ordered some BL2KIT25664BA1336 from Crucial. It wont even BOOT wont even POST to the BIOS.. The other ram will at leaste post and boot, just gives me performance issues.

Windows has started up:
Boot Duration : 224746ms
IsDegradation : false
Incident Time (UTC) : 8/27/2009 11:59:59 PM

And there was one where it said World of warcraft took 695655445ms to load same as outlook.. I am like just a damn HDD away from having 100% replaced everything in this PC. Is the motherboard bad? I just bought the dang thing last saturday. This is very very frustrating

This confirms it. Your motherboard is a dud. Replace it.

well, Im hoping if it is the motherboard, that all my files and so forth arent screwed up. I had everything backed up to the 2nd drive which has now had over 90k of orphan'd files when I plugged it up to my laptop through a USB cable.. *sigh* shoulda just went with a name brand pc and not even tried to rebuild the old one..

You can use Norton Ghost to copy all your files across.
