Hi guys im having a bit of trouble...i have hp laptop with vista business...i formatted the hard disk and recreated the partitions....at the end of it there was some unallocated space left....after vista was installed i used disk management to create another partition of the unallocated space....there was a message of some sort and unfortunately i didnt read it...and moved forward ....after that i could see that all partitions were displayed as healthy ( c drive also (not primary) )...but everything was fine...then after some days i decided to repartition the disk....and now in vista setup i can see only 2 partitions C & D ( 4 other are not displayed), the delete option is nun functional . and when i move the cursor on D drive , it says this type of partition does not suport vista ( i guess its requiring primary ).....

what should i do>>>??? i can i totally delete the disk partitions???

Pls help me

most efficient, ad quickest way is to boot from the "vista" dvd and format and re-install.

If you just want to do the partition maintenance could you tell us which you want and which you want gone and their size

well im using the recovery vista DVD provided....setup is going fine...but as i told u i could see only 2 partions instead of 6 and c and d as "dynamic"....installation is going on fine on c...but when i select D it says dynamic partition does not support for installation....

firstly - how to change C back to primary??
Secondly- why other partitions not being displayed
thirdly - if i can install vista on c anyhow....should i use again disk management to extend C drive after vista is installed ( after deleting the other partitions )

My Computer

ok now here are the things:

c drive is been displayed as dynamic and rest 200 gb is un partitioned......so when i move cursor on un partitioned.."new" button for creating partition is inactive and it says since 1 or 2 volumes are dynamic partitions ( c is dynamic )....windows can not be installed on this.........so just help me merge c ith unpartitioned so that i can recreate c with primary partition status...

please guys....

So here are the things :

now i have c drive and unpartition space. c is being displayed as dynamic instead of primary. and the " New" button to create partition in unpartition space is inactive when i move cursor on unpartition space, it says since 1 or more volumes are dynamic ( c is dynamic) windows can not be installed on this drive. ( this is during vista setup). so how to merge c to create whole unpartition space and re create c with primary partition???

Help guys

I'm sort of at a loss. You only have one hard drive (none chained or external). You must delete partitions before you can format them. But you say you are not able to delete the C: partition.
Partition Magic is free and can do this
Partition Logic
I just don't know why you are not able to do this in Vista install.

Do you have the vista dvd? sorry I have been following this thread

If you do and you dont need any info in c:, you can boot from dvd start the install and it will ask you where you want it installed say C: then there is an option (i think its in advanced) that allows you to format the partition.

yea i did that ( i can format c while in the setup, but cant create partition, for that disk management works....but still it shows dynamic partition for c after format....does c is dynamic in vista??

setup has an option somewhere (im not on a vista machine right now) to let you format from the dvd. No it shouldn't be dynamic. btw if you have more than 5 partitons on one HD it causes all sorts of grief.

Im going to have to rely on someone else for this (im sure there are tons of them) that will have this answer but I will keep an eye on this thread in case

First thing, download the Ubuntu live cd, and use gparted to massacre all your partitions in the live cd. Then when your hard drive is empty with no partitons, install Vista.
