This helpful forum has been trying to assist me with a clean install of vista. Have followed the advice and downloaded the configuration utility but still no luck. I am using a portable hd with the usb port - do I need to buy a flash drive instead to install the drivers...
Many thanks

A flash drive or burn them on a dvd.

Thanks for the tip. I might be able to borrow a flash drive if not I'll burn to a dvd.
Please could you also tell me if I have to do anything to the files or just load them on to the flash drive and the vista installation will find them okay - the part where it says local drives.
These are the files

Load to a USB flash drive.

Installed the files on a usb flash drive and plugged it into the laptop. Although the acer lists the drive as removable disk (E:) it does not open or do anything with them.
Where have I gone wrong please...
In the windows installation where it offers a choice of either Browse or Rescan - under Browse - the browse for folder box opens with disk e listed but highlight it and click okay - the box closes and that's it...

My Computer

Afraid not...
My screen looks something like this

+ ACER (C:)
+ CD Drive (D:) FRMCFRE_EN_DVD
+ Removable Disk (E:)
+ Boot (X:)

Prior to ticking load drivers & browse the box is empty...

Thank you again for the help but the acer still does not recognise the drivers. Clicking drive C or Acer E - then clicking okay and I still get the mesage about drivers not found. I am trying to do a clean install - would it have been easier with XP - I'll go and buy a copy if so.

No, I think that installing Vista is simplier than XP, with XP you cannot use pen drives for drivers, only diskette drives...
