acer 5315 ongoing

I haven't downloaded any dvd. I have a proper vista disc with the reg no on the back of the acer. The only thing I have downloaded is the sata driver to a usb flash......

As I have lost count of the number of times I have tried to re install vista I tried a couple of new ideas - changed the bios sata to read ide - that did not work.
I also added a new partition and tried to get vista to install to that. The partition appeared correctly as Disc O - it then found the sata drive thought about it for ages -
then told me it could not install the drive and to go to the manufacturer site for an updated one - which is where I obtained the drive in the first place...

Click "C"
Click okay
and nothing happens

Maybe I am being a little harsh but do you do left click on C and then button "NEXT"....

Or maybe and just maybe you need to actually boot from Vista DVD to do clean install.
But for this purpose boot normally into vista, than put your installation DVD in CD/DVD-rom drive and tell us what do you get?

I said at the very beginning that it was a used acer with loads of junk files and that it runs very slowly. I shouldn't have this problem installing vista on a laptop - should I....I installed vista on a desktop with no troubles but expect that was with a ide hdd.

Hi smokeyone

As you can get to the desktop go to Acer eRecovery, start the program.

1) make your eRecovery DVD's.

2) Then in the program you will find eRecovery reinstall.

Smokeyone-
I've installed vista to a desktop SATA drive many times, (and on dated hardware to boot!).
I can assume you are currently running windows xp? Or are you trying to replace vista with vista?
Vista will not allow you to play with hard drives unless it has booted from the DVD.

Even windows cannot find e recoverery so I am assuming it's been deleted sometime in the past. E recovery is listed under empowering technology but the actual file has gone.

For the other forum member that tried to assist - it's a vista acer laptop and all I wish to do is a fresh clean instal - I have a vista disk and have found the sata drivers
but just waist time going around in circles as vista refuses to load them and still says no drive or that the drivers are outdated...........
