Can't Delete a file!

Running Vista Ultimate 64 bit.
I downloaded a torrent file and now I can't delete it.

When I right click and hit properties this is what I see:
attachment.php

I get the delete confirmation as usual:
attachment.php

and then I get this:

attachment.php

Here is the security tab of the right click + properties:
attachment.php

How should I go about getting rid of this troublesome file?

My Computer

Had this problem once I had to redownload the file to the same folder(could'nt delete that either) and redelete it It was the only thing I could get to work with this error I some how got the file deleted but windows kept telling me it was there like I said the only fix I could find was to ovrwrite the file with amother copy of the same file then the delete worked fine so if that is an option I would handle it that way.

It was gone for a second and then it came back.

Gone then came back ? Could have a trojan in it then. It resides in memory and resaves itself to the hard drive.

This same thing happened to me I couldn't find a way but then i found out how. OK download Kubuntu Ubuntu or whichever you want. Then put it on your CD drive and reboot. After you do that you will see Ubuntu etc. booting. Choose whichever language you want then choose the option try Ubuntu etc. without any change to my computer. You will see it loading. Then go to computer and then choose the drive that you installed Vista on. Locate the folder that the .torrent file is at and delete it. after that delete it from trash. You can shut down boot into vista and there will be no more file. :)

im sorry isaaclopez that sounds like alot of effort to me. downloading a 1.5gb linux distro and then deleting through a different os booted off the disc.
The easier way would be to delete it in the command prompt.
if it doesnt recognise or read the file, move everything in that folder (apart from the file you want to delete)
and use the rd (remove directory) command. this will delete the directory available then for recreation (right click create new folder).
command prompt should recognise it though.
also try changing the file extension to a .txt file and then attempt a delete, you'd be surprised what works with glitches in the system

It is not believe me. Those Linux distros are really good. Why do you think i dual-boot with one;). As for the download it might take some while but that's why i used Orbit Downloader. I thought it was gonna be really hard to but it was actually very easy.

I tried to rename - same error. :(
I'm too tired to screw with it tonight, this will be a weekend thing.
The file is located in that particular account's Downloads folder. Can I even delete that?
I tried opening an elevated command prompt via the Ctrl+Shift+Enter trick - no dice.
I didn't get a window saying the prompt was elevated either.

I'm familiar with Linux. ;)

Let me ask you this - isn't there a special knoppix ISO I can download that is specifically designed for this sort of thing?

My Computer

I'm not sure in fact i just downloaded Kubuntu and I was testing it out to see if I should install it. I liked it and I had an idea. "No Windows Processes are running which might stop me from deleting the file." In conclusion i was able to delete it.

I would recommend trying "Unlocker". It has always worked for me: it lists all programs using file and preventing it from being deleted, and you have the option of unblocking and also deleting it directly. If deletion is not possible because affects a system program in use, the sofware offers you the option of deleting it on next boot.
Hope it helps!

create a separate partition and cut and paste file to it. format.
(that is if you can edit the file in anyway:p)

You can use an elevated command prompt to try and delete it. That would provide super-user privileges. Or as stated above. Download ubuntu 9.10 or knoppix and use that to navigate to the windows drive and delete it that way. Works perfect, had to do it myself once :p
