You can use an elevated command prompt to try and delete it. That would provide super-user privileges. Or as stated above. Download ubuntu 9.10 or knoppix and use that to navigate to the windows drive and delete it that way. Works perfect, had to do it myself once :p

How would that differ from trying to delete the files under the admin account?

My Computer

make a batch file that deletes files when you drop it on it.

In notepad type:

@echo off
del -p -f %1

goto exit
:exit

then save it as yourfilenamehere.bat

Now take the file you can't delete and drop it onto the batch file. it should delete it. if it doesn't, run the batch as Admin.

It doesn't delete itself. the -p argument tells the command to Prompt the user before deletion. After it is deleted or denied it will then execute the exit and close the prompt.

okay - I know that this is way after the fact - BUT . . . I noticed that this is a torrent file and if the torrent program is running and it's an active torrent - it will keep putting it back. And many torrent programs (unless you specify) will start when windows starts, so that's why after you try to delete it in safe mode and then start back up in windows again, it's back . . . You should stop, then remove the torrent from within the torrent program. Then check the settings in the torrent program to NOT start when windows starts.

By the way - I disagree, torrents are much better than irc.

The torrent program is not running, I made sure of that.

moveonboot failed as well - see attached.

The files don't exist, yet they are listed. This is obviously a file system corruption in one way or another.

if vista files are corrupted, open up command prompt as administrator and type in
'sfc/ scannow'. this is probably not gonna help with ANYTHING but worth a try from my opinion.

Done - it found no integrity violations.

The thing is I have a RAID 1 setup here - I would think the Intel utility would complain if one of my drives were failing.

You don't see this on ext3 or HFS+.
I'm at the end of my rope here. I think I'm going to get one of those shady Win7 Pro keys off ebay and wipe the drive. This is simply not acceptable.

Unlocker does nothing.

I right click and there's no unlocker option.
But when I right click and hit Send to its there - I do it and nothing happens.

See attached jpgs.

Download ubuntu, burn the .iso to a disk, boot it. Then linux will mount your windows drive and have no problem deleting the file. It was one of the first suggestions actually.

in the command prompt, from the directory that the "undeleteable" file is stuck in, try this command:

Del [insert start of filename here]* <---wildcard

the trick was that the file ends with a space which makes it hard for windows to deal with for some reason. Try this, it definitely works. I was stuck with one of those [torrentsworld.net] files and...

Del [torrentsworld.net]*

or

to solve, follow these steps:
1. Open up a command prompt (run cmd.exe from the start menu).
2. Navigate to the folder that the object resides in.
3. Run "dir /a /x /p" to display the contents of the folder, including hidden files (/a) and 8.3 filenames (/x).
4. Find the 8.3 filename of the object to the left of the regular, long filename.
5. Run "ren <8.3 name>" to rename the object, "del <8.3 name>" to delete it if it's a file and "rd /s <8.3 name>" to delete it if it's a folder.
Note: If renaming to a long filename, make sure to enclose the long filename in quotations. If that fails, temporarily rename it to an 8.3 name and then rename it to what you want outside of the command prompt.

Fixed - thanks!

It appears Windows Vista and its bugs got the better of me.

In other news, Malwarebytes reports hijack.displayproperties as a threat - it isn't.
